My wife and I had a fantastic three course meal at a very reasonable price for the quality. I have lived in France a couple times and travel there every few years, few places remind me more of France than Absinthe Bistro. It simply is authentic and excellent.

Booking reservations online is super easy and I love the the great service and attention. The staff is very friendly and the owner Julianna always makes you welcomed. I have been several times with friends and the food is always fantastic. I'll definitely go back again and again. kudos

I have wanted to try Absinthe Bistro for quite awhile but they have an extremely limited menu and we hadn't seen anything that both my husband and I would enjoy. The menu offers 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts so there is not a lot to choose from. It is really a nice bistro with soft music playing in... More

First time coming to this restaurant, I am totally impressed by the service. The lady there made me feel like she was going above and beyond. I tried out the soup, beef carpaccio and the pork. Absolutely delicious. Creme brûlée was one of the best I have ever tried. Would definitely come back!

I've reviewed this restaurant before, but we keep going back because the quality is so good and it is great value. This was our choice for a major wedding anniversary dinner (just the two of us). It's a bit crowded, but the service is great and the food is always excellent. The menu is very small, but changes regularly. For... More

We went to Absinthe Bistro for a celebration dinner. Loved the one price for dinner and choice of 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and three desserts. All choices were attractive, hot, fresh and tastefully presented. Chef is very innovative re mixing ingredients to make a most tasteful experience. Book early, as seating is somewhat limited and they are booked solid on... More

I've been here twice now. The first time I went was with my boyfriend for my birthday, the second was with friends for his birthday. Both times were great, but I recommend it more-so for couples than with friends. Either way, the food here is absolutely amazing and you won't be disappointed!

This is a nice place to try but not sure if I would go back. The ambience is very nice and service is amazing. My rabbit loin was very tough and the lamb not as tender as I like, but both were very beautiful. Had a really nice time.

I love this place. Small and comfortable. Friendly, naturally, not forced, food terrific. Menu is changed regularly with limited choice so they do a great job on the few offerings. Had lobster soup, lamb shank in reduction sauce (fell off the bone), and lemon tart, excellent. Others had scallops, pork belly, salads, with only kudos all around. Wine list needs... More

Small and cosy restaurant. From the time we walked in to the time we left it felt like we had travelled back to Paris. Had the 3 course menu. Cauliflower soup with dungenous crab was to die for. Pork belly and Lamb shank was so good and what can I say about dessert. Yummy. The hosts made us feel very... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
