Very happy to find this independent coffee house in a city dominated by soulless chains. Beautiful spot.

We wandered around Gastown Vancouver and found this place mid-morning. We decided to call in for coffee. Ordered at the bar and where told the order would take 2-3 minutes and they would call out when it was ready. All the customers had been served bar one couple in front of us. After about 5 minutes I went up to... More

Saw this cafe as I was walking in Gastown our first night in Vancouver, while searching for dinner. From looking in, I could tell it had a great atmosphere and I made note that I wanted to come back during the day. On our last day in Vancouver I was in need of some coffee and I passed a dozen... Very nice coffee shop with great coffee and nice basic decor. The food was good , reasonably priced and very tasty. The service also was good but one of the waitresses had a very shrill and loud laugh that eventually drove us out into the street! No worries , I will bring earplugs next time .

We tried coffee from about 8 different venues in the Water St area and this was definitely our favourite. The coffee was sensational and this is lso a perfect venue if you want a sandwich, toasty (grill) or bakery style cake. We found it difficult to find a casual eatery and Smart Mouth delivered in spades.

After whatever morning rush but before office coffee breaks - spartan exposed structural bits and raw wood flooring. Good selection of pretty toothsome baked good (pastries from Cadeaux on Powell Street - truly fabulous) and house-made muffins with to-go wraps and salads. Barista did a fine pull.

We had a great day in the downtown that we finished at this café. Delicious coffee (espresso) with complimentary water. Possible to sit outside and observe the street pulse:-); pleasant service.

Came in here looking for a spot to sit and have a coffee while we were answering some emails. It's a nice spot and beer is also available. After we ordered our drinks another customer mistakenly took them and left and when we brought it up to the barista they were not happy they would have to remake our drinks... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
