This place is great for casual night out or formal dining in case you are celebrating a special ocassion.
We visited Five Sails this past Tuesday, August 24 to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. It was the perfect setting, table for two overlooking Vancouver harbor with views that extended as far as Stanley park, North Vancouver, West Vancouver; with the backdrop of the mountains.
As the evening progressed the sun started to set creating hews of golden shades reflecting on the water and producing the most beautiful rose gold clouds. That is the exterior of what our experience was.
Inside was a different story with similar if not better experience. As we checked in we were warmly welcomed and seated by the window with honestly the best seat in the house, or so I thought. I felt privileged to live in such a beautiful city enjoying a great experience thus far. I looked around, everyone's seat was a beautiful place to admire the view. But, I was there for my own experience.
We were immediately greeted by Martina, a petite host with huge personality who made us feel as if we knew her from somewhere. That's how natural she was at making us feel welcomed, we knew we were going to have the best service. She was polite, extremely professional, knowledgeable in every aspect and detail of the entire menu. Spoke with clarity and paused with discretion as we had questions about the menu.ll
The way she explained "todays" special made me confused, in a good way, I had decided for the Halibut but her description of the special Salmon dish was very tempting and persuasive. Her eloquence and training up to par and worthy of praise. My husband and I are just regular folks, all dressed up out for a fancy anniversary dinner; Martina made us feel like royalty. My humble observation was that every single person at Five Sails all work in conjunction with each other and create this atmosphere of sublime service. One feels respected, valued.
In between came the sommelier with a cart of exquisite complimentary champagne for us to begin our celebration. His smile and generous attitude were genuine, he made a drinker out of me. I always opt for water, just a personal preference.
Thankyou Martina, we learned you are a native of Italy and in the course of our dinner you also made us want to visit your home land. You are truly placed in the right profession; the hospitality trade is not for everyone.
I must add this unique observation...in between guests tables are completely dressed and prepared with crisp linens and out of nowhere an iron comes out to erase any traces of wrinkles on the cloth. This is how you are pampered even before you are seated.
I did stick to the Halibut dish, how delicious that was; my husband had Lamb and together with Oysters, brioche, champagne...the view, delicious complimentary anniversary dessert plus a crew of unbelievable warm and professional staff we ended the evening with four thumbs up.
Fully recommended. In fact we will take family for the high tea experience.

We had an incredible evening at Five Sails as a family. Our large group of 16 was at the start of a 10 day trip and celebrating my parent's anniversary. We have one person with food allergies and another that is gluten free, so attending to our culinary preferences is not always easy. From start to finish, Five Sails was amazing. The front desk staff made it so easy to coordinate plans for the evening (arranging our tables, changing times, discussing menu) and even put us in a lovely private room without us requesting. The waitstaff were excellent from the time we arrived - there at every turn when we had a need and carefully addressing the allergies. They were prompt without making us feel rushed, attentive but also gave us time to just relax and celebrate, and the food was unbelievably delicious. Some of the food pairings were totally unique and new to us and everyone, from the 77 year old to the 9 year old, agreed that it was a top meal of all time.

We booked this after reading all the reviews and weren’t disappointed. The food was amazing, we had the duck and lamb for our main course and both were fantastic.
If you are someone who likes lots of choice, this isn’t for you. There are only 6-8 choices on all courses.
The waiting staff were very attentive and had great knowledge of the dishes and what wines would work.

We were served by Jesse at Five Sails for their High Tea at Versailles brunch. As far as celebrating our anniversary at this location, it's hard to ask for more than we got. Sat down with a gorgeous view of the harbour, we were treated to a lovely array of treats both sweet and savory. Being able to directly select our tea from a sampler set while talking to the manager dressed up as Louis XVI is honestly an experience you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Between the view, the food, and the attentive staff, I have zero problem rating this a 5/5 experience. We will definitely be back.

If you visit Vancover and enjoy Tasting Menus - you should definitely try this restaurant. The service is excellent with detailed explanations of each course. The wine pairing is ‘spot-on’ and the sommelier very knowledgeable. We have eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants around the world and although this doesn’t YET have a star - it MOST DEFINITELY should have. We would come back to Vancover just to have this experience again! Thank you staff & Chefs!

This is a lovely restaurant with good service, five-star food, and a fabulous view. It's the kind of restaurant you go to for a unique experience and a very special ambiance. It's also very expensive where dinner for two and a bottle of their least expensive wines can top $300 US. So, we were astonished when a party of five, dressed in T-shirts, heavily laden with packages and a crying baby were seated at the adjacent table. While to the manager's credit, we were moved to another table and offered free desserts, patrons dressed in T-Shirts and with a crying infant should never be admitted. It spoils the ambiance for everyone.

We keep returning to the restaurant since we have such a great experience each time. We both had the sable fish which was cooked perfectly and was so tasty. The sommelier recommended the perfect wine to go with the mains. Service was good as well. The views from the restaurant are stunning. Everything was perfect from start to finish.

We had two dinning experiences at Five Sails last week. We went to Five Sails initially on my wife's birthday. The evening was going extremely well when we were derailed by an adjacent table being disruptive. We were reseated, but it put a cloud on an otherwise special evening. I communicated my concern and received a call from Director Alexandre Blais to apologize and invite us back. We arrived two nights later and were greeted by Alexandre and rock star Culinary Director Alex Kim who hosted us to a five course tasting menu with wine selections by Alexandre. We were turned over to our Italiana wait person, Martina, who took excellent care of us. An amazing parade of food and wine awaited us, starting with an amuse bouche featuring foie gras custard with white truffle and a carpaccio with 25 year old balsamic vinegar. This was paired with an Okanagan Tantalus Blanc de Blanc witch was an excellent foil with its crisp minerality, and flavors of lime and stone fruit. As Cheryl said "Yum!" This was followed by two more tour de force courses: baked oysters with Burrowing Owl Pinot Gris, the perfect seared scallops rocked by a spectacular Unsworth Chardonnay, for Cowichan Valley. The stage was perfectly set for the main, Peace River Lamb Loin with roasted aubergine puree & sweet pepper, zucchini, lamb sausage tartlet, and olive jus severed with a nice Pike RoadWillamette Valley Pinot Noir. Next pastry chief Daria Andriienko brought two separate deserts: a chocolate based cake for me and a vanilla fruit cake for Cheryl, who is not a chocolate fan (determined from a premeal email). This was paired with mind melding ice wine: Mission Hills Riesling. I always try to take Cheryl out for a special birthday dinner. Last birthday, I took her to the Michelin Star MEC Restaurant in Palermo (Chef Carmelo Trentacosti). I did not think I would be able to find a match for that birthday dinner, but Five Sails was equal to the challenge. Thank you Alexandre and Five Sails for making it right with a very special meal and evening. You are incredible hosts.

The restaurant looks out onto the harbour, which is a beautiful setting. The tables are laid out so that there is plenty of space between patrons, very comfortable. The dishes were interesting, the food tasted great, and the portions were perfect. Our server, William, was wonderful - he was welcoming, explained the menu clearly, made thoughtful suggestions and was a pleasure. The entire meal was a highlight of our stay in Vancouver. We hope to return when we are in Vancouver again!

A 10-star fine dining marvel! I haven't seen service as polished and professional as this in the last decade. Understated elegance at every step. Can I say a perfect meal! The view is enough to overwhelm, but the people have obviously been trained to make you feel special and pampered with no hint of snobbery. The food was cooked perfectly and seasoned correctly. Nothing was too salty; fish and seafood was very fresh. Bananas Foster done tableside was a lovely ending to an outstanding meal. This was a memorable meal and not just an excellent dinner. Thank you.

I booked this restaurant for originally our first night in Vancouver, we had some issues with flight delays and my partner kept insisting we ask to move it to the next day, which the restaurant allowed with no issues at all. The service is fantastic and they whole team really looked after us, the bartender even making a cocktail that wasn't on the menu for us and blowing us away. The food was incredible, pretty to look at but even better to eat. The view is to die for, and really makes you feel like you are eating in the clouds of Vancouver. We had the most amazing meal, so amazing that my partner then decided he wanted to take a walk along the harbour next door and propose! The most amazing magical memory for us, and a place we hope to visit again when we come back to Vancouver. Thank you for a brilliant meal.

This is where you go for a meal that is an experience, not just a dish. We came for an anniversary and were delighted by the cocktails, the food, and the dessert.
The wow factor is the people. They take such pride and care in all they do. Service at the table was friendly and attentive. The presentation had elements of spectacle—the cover of a mist-filled glass is removed to reveal a cocktail garnished with brilliant colours and texture. The description of our chosen dessert had to be repeated because my eyes could t believe what I was hearing…this was impressive.
Our entrees and sides were well-timed, precisely as described, and arrived as we stared out over Burrard Inlet. The people, the food, the view. Each and all are stunning.
I just experienced Chef Alex’s work at a culinary competition last week (he won). He is clearly a brilliant and creative professional who brings out the best in his team.
We will be back…undoubtedly.

The resturant has a lovely view overlooking Vancouver Bay. The afternoon tea is themed and served with a good choice of different teas with both sweet and savoury food. I’d describe it as sophisticated.
The savoury part of the meal was interesting and tasty, but the two small sandwiches were very dry. The sweet treats were beautifully crafted by the chef but were extremely sweet. Not many people on the tables around us finished them off.
Service was attentive, prices expensive, but they made a real effort to wow you. Overall, style over substance.

My fiancé and I shared an incredible experience at Five Sails under the care of Taf our amazing server. Jason, the manager, was so accommodating as we had a reservation which was right when the dining service was ending and we got a little lost in the parking lot, and he was so kind in directing us to the restaurant, allowing us to take our time to enjoy our meal. The whole team was so generous in taking their time to explain the dishes and give their personal recommendations, and treated us to these lovely amuse-bouche dishes! The ambience was very romantic - I highly recommend a table by the window to overlook the water and enjoy the view of the city. Jason was so lovely that knowing it was my birthday brought out an extra dessert on top of what we had ordered because he knew we were debating between the two and couldn’t help but have us indulge! We have dined all over the world and have never experienced the kind of service we had tonight at Five Sails. We will undoubtedly come back every time we will be visiting Vancouver.
