Restaurants in hotels can sometimes disappoint, but not the Five Sails in the Pan Pacific. With views overlooking Canada Place and the North Shore mountains one's evening is always off to a good start. The menu is comprised of fresh West Coast fare prepared with the Austrian flare of the owner-chef and is always perfect, served by a very professional... More

The views across the harbour are beautiful, and the white tablecloth covered tables and silverware provide a very sophisticated atmosphere. The service was also very good, without being overbearing. If you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion this one fits the bill. The food is also very good, although truthfully you can get better elsewhere in... More

It's a little unassuming, tucked away in a corner above the lobby of the Pan Pacific hotel...but once you walk in and see the spectacular view of the water and mountains, it makes your visit just a little sweeter! The food was delicious. They had a special on Siberian caviar, and their 5 course tasting menu was just right! The... More

We celebrated a wedding anniversary here while celebrating in Vancouver, and could not have made a better choice. Lots of windows and views for ambience, and tables are not packed in so you do not feel as though you are elbow-to-elbow with your neighbors; it is very easy to chat. Excellent martinis, excellent entrée choices (seafood) and preparation, and top-notch... More

We have dined at our share of amazing restaurants around the world, including Michelin starred restaurants. Based on the reviews of this restaurant, we had high expectations. We were a bit disappointed. The food was good, but NOT amazing. We were, frankly, a bit disappointed. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and taken to our table. Our server was polite... More

Good to stick with the classics. The serving staff are very professional and they cater to your specific needs. Always best to stay with some of the specialty items they recommend. They do these items with care, they are not as flexible when it comes to specialty diets.

It was a lovely evening. We enjoyed our window table as the view of the harbour and mountains is great. The service was extremely accommodating and the food, delicious. We haven't had scallops that good in 20 years. We had hoped to return in December but have been unable to get a reservation. In 2017, we will definitely return.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Feb 11th. When entering the restaurant you are greeted with a very friendly hostess, she goes over any food allergies you may have and proceeds to seat you, all the while making you feel like the guest of honor. We were seated with a gorgeous view of the water. We enjoyed the... More

Enjoyed the tasting menu for our anniversary dinner. Felt so welcomed from the moment we walked in to the time we left. Both food and service were extraordinary…scallops were done perfectly, never had quail so moist and flavourful, venison was so tender…My husband who usually leaves places like this still hungry was happy with portions. I know, being full shouldn't... More

Description
Dramatically situated on the waterfront pier at Canada Place, this AAA Four Diamond award winning fine dining restaurant offers a breathtaking natural backdrop of the inner harbor, Stanley Park and Coastal mountains with gracious hospitality in an understated elegant setting. Proprietors Chef Ernst Dorfler and Gerry Sayers, a husband and wife team, bring years of experience to Five Sails skillfully fusing modern, continental cuisine with European influences to cultivate a memorable dining experience. Showcasing the mastery that made Chef Dorfler an internationally acclaimed Culinary Olympic World Champion, his signature mountain raviolis stuffed with fine herbs, spinach and ricotta then finished with a drizzle of hazelnut butter harken back to his Austrian childhood. The innovative "Catch!", a veritable cornucopia of seafood is enrobed in a lemongrass sauce perfumed with coconut milk and hint of chili, displays world-class passion and artistry. Sommelier, Ramon Fresneda, always brings impressive knowledge and unpretentious flair in providing optimal wine pairings from a list consistently honoured with the Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence. The gracious service and exemplary dining combined with sweeping views of ships sailing off into the setting sun is an experience like none other.

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
