Hai nam chicken and stir fry cod with gai lan were our dinner combo entree selections we decided to go with. Both very good. Many a la carte options too. It comes with rice, soup and dessert for a very reasonable price. The service was ok. We came on a Tuesday and it was not that busy actually. Casual atmosphere,... More

The three of us arrived after 2:00 PM for a late lunch. After circling the restaurant location we were able to find metered parking on a side street. Unless you’re prepared to walk a block or more, all the parking on Main Street and the immediate side streets are either metered or reserved for residents. Street parking cost me $2.00... More

'Cuz so many of our friends rave about this restaurant chain (Main Street, Victoria Drive & Minoru Bvld) we decided to venture into the Main Street location for dinner. Surprisingly the menu is fairly extensive, we even found one of our favorite dishes (pork belly with preserved vegetable) which so very few Chinese restaurants now offer. Service was prompt and... Food is no longer the quality it used to be. Perhaps we were used to a particular type of Chinese because none of the dishes now resemble what we used to get and we went there often 15 years ago. Seems the lower priced Chinese are cutting corners and maybe not using fresh ingredients. Too bad but seems like to... More

Mui Gardens has been an institution on Main street for decades and was busy as heck on a Saturday evening in November serving really just average Chinese food. We had a 4 course dinner for 2 for $25 (with tax & tip $30). The vegetarian spring rolls were nice, crispy & hot on the outside but the filling was cool-ish... More

Had an early lunch with my family at Mui Garden Restaurant. Restaurant wasn't busy when I was there. There was about 4 or 5 tables occupied. Food was OK...nothing fancy nor special about it. Food arrived quickly and free hot tea. There is free Shaw Open from nearby businesses. Your mobile or tablet may catch a strong signal inside the... More

This is one of our favourite chinese restaurants in town! Always reliable. Sometimes we get take-out, or we sit in restaurant, depending on circumstances. They are incredibly child-friendly, always happy to see our son. I recommend these dishes: - Sweet and sour pork and pineapple - Singapore style vermicelli - Bbq pork chow mein - Beef broccoli - Shrimp and... More

Only few restaurants were open in this side of town and one of them is Mui Garden. The ambiance is simple, family-oriented. When we got in, we chose to seat at the left side of the restaurant as the other side smells like washroom cleaning solution. It was that annoying. The order taker was a chinese lady who had a... Came here to order takeout when my usual spot was closed...what I remembered about Mui Garden from years past was that they have great curry. And I am glad to say that they still have delicious curry. I'd pass on their hainan chicken rice though.

Very good 'family' style Chinese restaurant. Curries are always reliable , Malay style. Famous for free range steamed chicken Hainan style which never disappoints. Don't eat here for the 'atmosphere'. It's basic, but as they say: 'you don't eat the decoration'. price is right and portions generous. Recommended at any of their 4 locations in Greater Vancouver, same good value... More

Staying in South Main

Neighbourhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
