Pretty sure our burritos were microwaved. Wasn't a great taste, rice was meh, beans were good. Lathered in hot sauce helped, but not very impressed. Service was good and chips and salsa were also tasty. For $15 I would expect better burritos

We used to come here all the time but haven't been in a few years. The food is still hearty and tasty but sadly it's not as lively as I remember! Good news for us though—no wait.

I always eat Mexican food at the downtown restaurants but when I discovered Tio Pepes I was happily surprise! I never have been there I always ask for de delivery to my home, the food is really good and they have huge portions for excellent prices, you will never find that portions in the Mexican downtown restaurants. Definitely I will... More

Expensive (for what you get), tasteless (rice and beans taste like gyprock), the "chilli relleno" (stuffed pepper) was fried in old frying oil which tasted like fish. Cheap house wine. Atmosphere below 0. To avoid: save your money!

We visited Tio Pepe's last night for dinner in search of a good mexican restaurant as there are so few in Vancouver. It is a cozy little place in the great commercial drive area. The salsa was fantastic, flavourful and tangy. We had the chicken and meat burritos which were absolutely delicious. The burritos weren't huge like in some mexican... More

The food is mostly southern Mexico fare. It is a cozy, ok small place in Commercial Street in the area that attracts bohemians and the likes. Service is reasonable and the menu, while not overly extensive, offers enough choices. I personally enjoyed the Cochinita Pibil and as a side note, the original owner was actually Honduran but spent most of... More

This is pretty good Mexican food, including some unusual items, like Mexican pork chops. Nice intimate little setting, and cold Dos Equis!

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
