We had dinner here last night and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The service was excellent and the food was very good. We were there for four hours enjoying a relaxed meal and never felt rushed as the table was ours for the night. Hadn't been back here for about three years but will definitely come back as seems to be... More

We remembered this restaurant from a long-ago date so... The food was good. Not remarkable, but good. It's a big menu. The service was fine. There is nothing that separates this restaurant from many others.

We've enjoyed many a repast at Al Porto for years on end. The other day we experienced the most terrible evening ever. The female server was totally non-attentive and would continuously interrupt our conversation by talking to use from as far away as 15 feet away. Other times she would totally ignore us and return to the receptionist to gossip... More

My wife and I called in by chance looking for a "burger change" and found Al Porto. The service was friendly and efficient - the food was delicious. I had veal scaloppini and my wife had seafood pasta, accompanied by a fine British Colombian Pinot Gris. Highly recommended

We were looking for a place to have an early dinner while attending the Home and Design show at the Convention centre. This was a short walk so we decided to try it and was pleasantly surprised by how great the meal was. I had the scallops and prawns and my husband had the cioppino. Both were very well prepared... We had been for a wander around Gastown and chanced upon this place for lunch. The menu was great, and had gluten-free options for my husband who could finally have a tasty pizza! I had spaghetti carbonara and it was wonderful. Our waiter was a delight and such a bad man who made us have dessert - we forgave him... More

My husband and I stumbled on this delightful Italian restaurant while walking around Gastown in Vancouver, BC. It's located slightly off the central street on a very narrow side street. The restaurant itself is down a flight of stairs. We were warmly greeted by our waiter shortly after being seated. The pace of the service was perfect. We enjoyed a... More

We stumbled across this ristorante down a side alley in Gastown after watching the steam clock do its thing and decided to have lunch. We chose the lunch special which was minestrone soup, Caesar salad and pizza for $16.95 which was great as we had a starter each and shared the pizza. The pizza was delicious with a crispy case,... We visited early evening, received a warm welcome. Good choice of menu and it had happy hour type deal whereby you could have a soup or salad free and then have a main, as long as you stayed away from steak and expensive dishes, I make it sound more complicated than it is. Rest assured though there is plenty of... More

The staff were very friendly and helpful, they did not seem to mind that we only wanted a couple of courses for dinner, the local wine they recommended was very nice, and they took time to talk to us even though they were busy. The food was extremely well presented and was authentic Italian cuisine. I had a delicious pizza... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
