I've been here 3 and now 4 times over the past 5 years and was impressed the first three times but now, not so impressed. The wine selection, white or red, was about 98% BC and because I live in BC and have been to a majority of the wineries it made it very hard to choose from the menu.... More

Knowledgeable staff. Delicious pairings designed for savouring. Pricey but high quality. The location is sketchy but definitely unique. You'll be glad you braved Blood Alley to find the Salt Tasting Room - a memorable spot. We went for aperitifs ...ideally, you should go when not rushed so you have lots of time to enjoy a wine flight and cheese plate.... More

This place is awesome! We were friends and acquaintances. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy some fine food. We had just that! The waitress was of utmost help!! We sampled so many things and they paired the wines for us. My advice: give them latitude and enjoy!!! They know what they're doing.

I visited the Salt Tasting Room with friends for the first time this past weekend. Our first impression was not a good one. We were seated at the bar despite having a reservation. When we asked if we could have the next available table the male host was pretty rude and left us feeling uncomfortable. After explaining that we would... More

Salt has a fine wine list and an excellent selection of meats and cheeses which are sold at a high premium. We had excellent food and wine but at eye watering prices. It took a long time for the food to arrive which was surprising given it was simply cut meat and cheese. Great food but over priced.

I have been going to Salt since it opened around 10 years ago. Lived a half a block away for 3 years and went almost once a week for the whole time. In it's day it was one of the most original restaurants in Canada way before the charcuterie and cheese trend started to become common place. Simple decor, back... More

Overall the experience at Salt was amazing. Our server was so knowledgeable about every single wine (including white, rose, red, mead, dessert wine, bubbles) that was on the menu. You can either choose from a pre-set wine and charcuterie board that has already been paired, or you can work through the menu with the server to pick your favourite wines... More

Cheese, sausage, and wine are the main things on offer here. These are done extremely well. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable about their product. We also appreciated that they went out of their way to accommodate a gluten allergy. If you don't like cheese, sausage, or wine, probably not the place for you, though there were a few salads and... We stopped in here to try some wine. We didn't have any food so I can't comment on that. We each had a flight of wine and all the selections were great. Good place to try something you haven't before. We love our wine, and this by far was the best place we hit on this trip to try new... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
