Ate at zawa at 2pm on a Saturday, the restaurant wasn't that busy but we had to find our seats ourselves and wait 15min for a waiter to clean our tables. Then another 15 to come back with water and another 15 to take our orders. Then we waited an hour for our meals, they lightly apologized for the lateness.... More

We went for lunch, food was great, I had the beet/goat cheese salad and it was so good. Service was very good! Bathroom was really nice. The calamari was pretty darn good as well as an appetizer.

I haven't been to this place in a while so my review isn't as up to date as it should be but the last time i went, it was good. The portions were large for the price we paid. It wasn't the world's best food but there were no complaints.

We had a late lunch here so service was very fast. Good quantity of food which was nicely prepared and very tasty. The spicy shrimp was nice and hot, no scrimping on spices here. Our other meal was also very good.

We stopped here for brunch on Canada Day weekend, and probably should have been alerted by the fact we were the only people eating there! Our waitress was very sweet, and that second point is all thanks to her. The food itself took a long time to come, and when it did... ah wow, I decided Canada Day called for... More

You can always find a seat... The decor isn't the greatest but the food is fast and tasty. A good hangover cure.

Had a couple beers here while walking on The Drive, Granville Ale was on special. Big screen TV there for sports watching, it was around 5PM.

I went to Zawa to support a friend in fundraising by attending a comedy show. I arrived early before it got busy and it took forever to get any service. Eventually my friends (8 friends) showed up. They also waited far too long for any service. I ordered a white bottle of wine. The waitress put it on the table,... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
