My partner and I went to this restaurant to celebrate his birthday and we were not disappointed. The fact that the place had been flooded the day before did not stop them from opening and serving top notch meals. He had the schnitzel and I...More

This was once a go-to restaurant but no more! The food was completely bland, the steamed veggies were mush and the home fries seemed to be from the bottom of the pot. This place really should take reservations as the wait time and experience was...More

Good, or not so good, as some would have it, but I enjoyed my Lunch, the Ambience, and the Staff! I cannot go anywhere else and have so much for so little and still be well prepared and presented. Everyone can have an 'off-day', but...More

The Black Forest has been one of our usual places for dinner prior to seeing a play at Theatre Aquarius over the last 5 years. We were there Wednesday Oct 4th with another couple. It was a bit of a wait for a our waitress...More

Vienna Schnitzel. Period. Been a staple in Hamilton since the 60’s. Cool Austrian ambiance. And the best schnitzel and spetzel that money can buy. Reasonably priced, as well. It gets busy but they have a ‘waiting area’ with a bar. Just love this spot. Thanks...More

What a shame. The Black Forest Inn may be celebrating 50 years in Hamilton but the new management has lowered the standards considerably. We came to their "Oktoberfest" on a beautiful fall day. No music, no patio, nothing special about this restaurant anymore.Silly girls on...More

Went here for the second time, food as good as I remember, but my previous visit was over 40 years ago! My recent visit impressed me with generous portions, good and quite authentic German food. And I know German food because I was raised on...More

This is a very busy restaurant. The schnitzel is yummy. Less busy at lunch, as usually waiting at dinner hour. Been at both times and wknd even busier, but worth it.

Visited on a Monday, and were able to enjoy the 50th anniversary special, a schnitzel dinner available all day for the amazing price of $10. Service was, as usual, tremendous. Schnitzel was tender and tasty, and the spaetzli was great, so much so that my...More

We went with a large group-most had a meat based order but some did have non meat dish. The salads were great and very well portioned. Everyone did rave about the schnitzel and spetzel.

You are exactly correct. Many people will try to say a place is authentic but have no clue what that actually means. Their standard is slop and anything slightly better is great.
