We ordered 2 dishes: Ye-Beg the Tibbs (lamb) and the Blue Nile Combination Platter (mix of legumes and chicken). Both dishes were flavorful. The lamb was simply yummy but got a bit dried towards the end. The combination plate had different types of legumes (all spicy and tasty), one cooked egg, and ]one chicken thigh. The injera bread was delicious.... More

We were looking for a good Ethiopian place and came upon Blue Nile. It was everything we were looking for.

We'd been looking for something different for a while and completely by accident I noticed this place. Having never had Ethiopian cuisine before our server made some wonderful recommendations and demonstrated the proper way to dine (no knives and forks needed!) If you're looking for fancy decor or a pretentious ambience this is not the place to go. If you're... More

The gentleman who was running the restaurant was the only staff member on site so service was a little slow. As we were the only two people in the restaurant with the periodic take-out order coming in and out, I would hope they put more staff on during busy hours. That is where the negatives end. We love our Ethiopian... More

The restaurant is small and clean. The prices are very reasonable. The food is authentic. If you want a balance of meat and vegetables then order a meat dish and a vegetable dish. It will come on a platter to share with you and your guest. Use your fingers and dig in. No cutlery is used. You eat in a... More

About as authentic as you can get in Canada, if you like Ethiopian food, you have to try the Blue Nile. And if you've never tried it before, you're missing out! The flavours of the berbere will keep you coming back. And eating without cutlery just adds to the experience. You won't leave hungry, guaranteed!

This was my first time eating traditional Ethiopian food. Went with a work colleague. No forks or spoons, you eat everything with your hands. Food was ok, service was good. Small and quaint atmosphere.

I have a confession: I'm a serious Ethiopian food addict. I have to get it where ever I am - which means in every city I visit I am looking for a fix. I've tried Ethiopian restaurants in Seattle, Denver, NYC, DC, Montreal, and the Horn of Africa which is also in Ottawa...the poor people that travel with me are... More

I love Ethiopian food but live an hour west of Ottawa, so didn't make it down to Rideau Street very often to the Horn of Africa. When I did a search recently to see if there was something west of downtown I was happy to find this spot. My husband and I went for dinner before a show at the... More
