The good: the merchant ale house (known simply as "the merchant" to locals) is a fun little venue that is always busy. They have great, addictive food and brew their own beers. The bad: the food is expensive, the menu is inconsistent. They had a gluten free vegan soup just once, for a week. It is gone now. I am... More

To our valued guests, Like numerous restaurants that serve freshly made food, our soup offerings change almost daily. This gives our kitchen staff room to innovate, and allows our regular guests to frequently enjoy something new. $15 a plate represents the very highest end pricing of our menu, that is reserved for very large portioned sharing plates (Nacos, Charcuterie Board)... We arrived on a busy Mother's Day weekend with no tables available and the staff made us feel right at home to wait at the bar and have a drink. The bartender was very friendly and served us right away. The staff kept us informed of the wait which always helps. The Blueberry beer was really good ( even my... More

We thought we would test their #1 status. They were busy on Thursday night at 9 when we got there. Food was piping hot and delicious. $16 gets you a double burger &fries with a pint of beer. They only sell their beer in the restaurant. Great service, great food and beer, great price

The waitress was friendly and super helpful. Everything in the menu is homemade, including the bread! I have a garden salad with a tasty homemade dressing, ham and lentil soup and a roll! Everything was fresh and delicious! Would definitively go back if in the area!

Fun place to eat and drink local craft beer. We were in St. Catharines to visit our daughter who attends Brock. Never miss a chance to stop in at Merchant Ale House. Great service, menu has a good choice and food was filling.

Had lunch with the wife here. British pub style decor with giant brew casks as the backdrop. I had the lunch special: pint with double burger/fries ($15.95). Pint- blueberry wheat was great. It's the most popular according to the bartender. The double burg was excellent, served with shoestring fries. My wife had the chicken club with salad ($13.95). Sandwich had... More

A group of four of us went for dinner on a Saturday night and although we had not made reservations we were seated in the cellar after a short wait. Great atmosphere and vibe and our server took care of us with some great suggestions. I wouldn"t normally go for a blueberry beer but it was very good. Loved the... More
