A great spot to get away fr9m the hustle and bustle! A perfect fit for the Island. Good food in a very civilized atmosphere makes for a feeling of utmost respectability. I love grabbing a bite after a good walk around the island. Go early to get a table or reserve one.

Taking the ferry across to the Island doesn't take long and if you like walking, then this is the place to be. No cars allowed and you can hire bikes to travel about. And after taking in the sites and views from the Island, you need to make a stop at the Rectory cafe. It must be a great place... More

We visited this establishment on a quiet day and found it a pleasant retreat. I suspect that it can get very busy. We started on the beers and found a good choice at $4.50 a half. but I found myself repeating my mantra that the beers in Canada are served far too cold. It was not a slight chill but... More

I had lunch - soup, sandwiches, coffee, at this nice restaurant in a beautiful location on Toronto Island. It was busy, being a beautiful day and the only place open in late October. The food was nice, and we had planned to stay for dessert but the service from one woman in particular was nothing short of rude. She was... More

Tea, cakes and ambience were great and well needed after a long walk. The queue was fine as they took names on arrival and gave an estimate. But once in, there was a huge wait for orders and then service with just two waiters managing the whole garden. Having said this, the cakes were delicious and we would certainly go... More

Took some friends here for lunch mid-September. We lucked out on a glorious day and each of us enjoyed our very delicious and healthy meals waterside. The patio is charming and well-shaded. We had excellent and attentive service so it couldn't have been a more delightful experience. There are opportunities to explore Ward's Island or walk over to Centre Island.... More

The island was already in Winter time schedule. Had a nice two hour walk and most of the places were closed. However Recory Cafe was open and stopped for a lunch. Nice sunny day, though not very warm anymore, still sitting outside was a delight. Two of us were vegans and there was plenty of choice, though initially most of... More

Dined here on a visit to Toronto Islands. It's located on the board walk between ward island and centre island. We sat on the huge patio under the trees. Was a bit chilly when in the shade but got given a blanket. Great service. Had some lovely sandwiches. Is also licensed. Can get very busy though.

We were taken here by a local friend who recommended the place for lunch. We had to wait for about 15 minutes for a table but we were taken to a nice spot outside for 5 of us. Service was good and attentive and generally the food of good quality. Rather odd watermelon salad was offered. One of the desserts... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
