We visited this bar on a number of occasions during our holiday. We sat near the bar and played cards until we went off for dinner! The staff were all very friendly and it was not an issue for us just to sit and enjoy our game! On our last night in the city we decided to eat here, a... More

We tried this "pub" as it was to the hotel, we were really tired so wanted local. It's themed like a pub but it doesn't quite get there. Anyway, the beer was ok, the food was quite good and reasonable priced. I had a chicken pie, which was both tasty and filling. If you want a place that's a quick... More

We enjoyed a delightful afternoon at the Duke of Somerset; superior service, and terrific food, with steak cooked to perfection. The Duke of Somerset is an upscale pub with very comfortable with quiet surroundings. Although busy, It was a perfect venue to spend the afternoon with friends.

Met a few colleagues for an extended lunch. The service was excellent and very friendly. The food (had a "gourmet" burger with a Greek salad) was excellent. Everything was very fresh and well prepared. Will definitely go again (next meeting there already scheduled...).

I recently had some friends in from out of town. They wanted to try an English pub, so we went to the Duke of Somerset! We were greeted promptly as we first stepped in the pub and were seated on their patio. It was early Thursday evening and we weren't expecting a busy crowd so it was nice to be... More

Went here for a few drinks and a bite to eat on a Tuesday night (10pm). We received our drinks quickly but the server informed us that because the place was not busy they closed the kitchen early. At 10pm? No wonder the place was not busy...Then she suggested that we go to their sister restaurant "Dukes Refresher" a few... More

Dear ob1dob, Thank you for your feedback. The Duke of Somerset was open until 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday and was still serving food until midnight. All six of our Duke Pubs locations serve food right up until last call. Is it possible you were there on Monday? We closed at 10:00 p.m. on Monday because it was a holiday. We'd... More

Nice rustic UK pub. The Union Jack in the bar is the right way up so we are off to a good start. The Waiting staff are friendly and chatty. The bar has a great rustic look. There was a great offer on a pitcher of beer so my wife and I had one between us. The chicken Korma and... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
