I was at a poetry launch here in October and ended up experiencing both the lower level event space / bar and the upper level pub space. Both were enjoyable for their respective purposes. The power level space was basically a mid-sized performance venue with...More

"The guys" get together a couple of times of year for "lunch" at the Monarch. Typically, they pick up sandwiches at San Francisco's downstairs (but not this time - apparently the new owners have changed the menu and the recipes, which are not favorable). Veal...More

I booked the Monarch in April 2016 for my 40th party. I worked with Mike who could not have been more helpful providing details on renting the space and organizing the music. The cost of rental was incredibly reasonable. Not just Mike but the whole...More

A city original the place feels cool without trying too hard. Caught a live show on the main floor without expecting it. Tasty cocktails, craft beer and unpretentious staff. I'll be back!

Came to Monarch for the Trash Bash. It is a great venue, good drinks, and the show was great. I would visit again. The bar had a good vibe, and we all had a great time.

Second year in a row I've celebrated my birthday here on the second floor. It's a relaxed, chill place that doesn't feel pretentious, where you can just have a great time with friends. And there was a DJ who played whatever we wanted; at the...More

I had heard OF the tavern many times over the years, but it took until 2 weeks ago to actually visit in person. First off, the atmosphere is fabulous. They have a pool table, a pinball machine, darts, lots of TVs for game-viewing and excellent...More

Since I had to go to Toronto AGAIN for medical treatment, my son who was accompanying me wanted to see a Leaf game. Knowing the price is out of our budget, we decided we just wanted to watch the tilt at one of Toronto's many...More

Tucked away between Toronto's thriving Dundas West and College Street strips, The Monarch Tavern has been serving its loyal patrons the coldest draft and warmest memories since 1927. As one of the oldest licensed establishments in the city, it's more than just a bar—it's a landmark! Upstairs you'll find the archetypal neighborhood public house, with 15 local craft beers on tap, cask conditioned ale, and the best selection of bourbon whisky in the city. There's no place like The Monarch to watch a Leaf game on the big screen TV's, shoot some pool, or play a little pinball while you mingle with the crowd. You can still bring up a veal sandwich or slice of pizza from outside, but you may not want to after you've tried the delicious pub classics and Asian street food the gang from Bunz Urban Cuisine are now cooking up in our kitchen. The main floor is the ultimate hangout for anyone who likes to stray a little off the beaten path. It's a great place to spend the day working on a laptop or meeting with friends over a fine cup of coffee. At night, the lights get turned down low and the room is transformed into a cool but totally casual cocktail lounge and event space, featuring an eclectic mix of live music, DJ's, and cabaret-style entertainment. With room for up to 120 people, you couldn't ask for a better place to bring a group or host your next catered affair. So, whether you're a college student, construction worker, artist, or fashion model, everyone feels like royalty at The Monarch!
