With only a quick google search for Gluten Free / Vegetarian friendly places to try, we decided to check out The Cardinal Rule. THANK GOODNESS we did. The cook turned around as we entered with a friendly 'hello', and the waitress seated us with a welcoming smile. The tables had funky cut outs from tv shows to movies to music... More

I had Sunday brunch at Cardinal Rule with some friends and it was fantastic. We all ordered the French toast. I had the bacon, cheese stuffed French toast with apple and cinnamon topping and it was delicious! The portion sizes were good, the coffee and service was good. The restaurant is small, there may be a wait but it is... More

Cardinal Rule is a lovely neighbourhood restaurant that has many veg and vegan options. The restaurant is cozy with booths or tables to suit all kinds of group sizes. The staff are great and very attentive to dietary needs and concerns. I had a difficult time deciding between the vegan mac and cheese and the veggie burger...but as I felt... More

If there is a Gluten Free dinner in Heaven, I SO hope it's Cardinal Rule. This place was amazing! The service was super friendly and efficient, and the food was... Well... Heavenly! We were so excited to see all the GF symbols scattered throughout the menu! I had the waffles which came with a peanut butter and jelly topping (Yum!),... More

Not posh, not fancy but great diner food. Plenty of choice for us vegetarians. Easy to get to with transit and in a busy commercial area. Plenty of shops. Waitress was so friendly and gave great recommendations. Colour coded for easy picking (veggie, vegan or gluten free) . Loved all the food but especially the mango cold rolls. Yummy. Super place... This place is very small. I would be surprised if it can seat more than 30 people. It's very much a pub atmosphere. The night we were there they were running a game, and nearly the whole place was participating. The food is good, but greasy. The staff is great - very friendly and helpful. They had to move a... Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
