This was a great place, but it has now gone. Replaced by the GLAD DAY bookstore. Will be missed. The bar ot GLADDAY is good but has limited food available.

Excellent food, friendly staff, and conveniently located in village. The restaurant opens up to the street and is great people watching as you sip on your cocktail!! Highly recommend. We will definitely be back during our next trip to Toronto!!

Endless list of Martini's.. and if you don't see your favorite on the menu.. they will easily accommodate and mix it up! Very happy we chose Byzantium, the atmosphere was fun, the servers were all very easy going and helpful and the owner came out to greet us which was a very nice touch. The food was impressive - I... Unlike most stuffy fine dining locals, this place was very friendly and laid back. We went on jazz night, not too loud if you sit further back. Food was pricy, but worth it. They also have dishes like Kangaroo for the more adventurous foodies.

I have been to Byzantium on numerous occasions; the food is outstanding and the ambiance is sublime. Their unique Caesar salad is one of my personal favourites. The staff is friendly and attentive and the owner is usually on hand to make sure things are running smoothly. You will never be disappointed!!!

My wife and I visited Byzantium last night for their Winterlicious promotion. We were attracted by their appealing choices for each of the 3 courses in the $35 prix fixe meal. We were greeted promptly, seated at a nicely located table and our server provided us what I consider perfect service - friendly but not overly "familiar" and attentive, but... More

Drawn in by the lamb on the 2016 winterlicious menu. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server Adam was fantastic, friendly, helpful and happy which is important as a server. Recommendations are the portobello ,mushroom strips, they were delicious, the calamari was just ok lacked in flavor for my liking. The lamb was tender, accompanied by nicely cut... More

Visited Byzantium for the first time with some friends who were familiar with it, and glad we did. We were warmly welcomed and given a choice of tables, and were quickly settled in. The décor is nice, and gave the place a sophisticated yet comfortable feel. Seems to be a family run operation, and the service was professional and friendly.... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
