The restaurant is tiny, but the food and the service are second to none. The food is incredible, and I had one of the best desserts I have tasted in my life. Really quite and cozy. 100% Recommended

We went here one Tuesday evening, this was our fifth time in 20 years. I had forgotten about this upstairs wonder. All I can say is, how wonderful the experience was. When I think of all the great restaurants that have failed in Toronto, it is encouraging to find this 'gem' has survived. A small intimate Bistro, marvelous food, great... More

I don't know why it took me so long to return to this charming bistro. Perhaps the location, up a narrow steep set of stairs might be a factor. It is a warm friendly bistro with great service and great food. I remember their specialty was omelettes but now it is so much more. I enjoyed an asparagus and Swiss... More

My wife and I enjoyed two of specialties of this attractive bistro up one flight of stairs: French onion soup and moules marinieres. Both were excellent, but the moules were prepared as well as I have ever had them -- so good I had to ask for extra bread to soak up the sauce! We were having a late lunch... More

This used to be called Jacques Omelettes but the owners changed their name to be less specific. The food is good and service is attentive. The owner is on the scene to make sure you have a satisfactory experience. It's not cheap but it's worth the price. The only problem for me is that the tables are very close together... More

Love this place -- very intimate and welcoming. I always ask for a window seat to look out onto Cumberland. Staff are unfailingly amazing, attentive and helpful with menu and wine choices. This lunchtime visit I enjoyed the nicoise salad, although the omelettes looked very tempting. Perhaps next time. Yes -- we indulged and asked for the dessert menu. All... More

We had a quest that took us and some friends for dinner and suggested a "French Restaurant". Jacques was convienient and the reviews seemed favourable. The owner was quite apologetic when our table was not ready. The staff we very accommodating to relocate us to a lager table when it became available between our starter and main. The menu is... My review is based on the fact that I was under the impression that this was a 'fine dining' french bistro and not a neighourhood grill... perhaps I was mistaken... and if it is just supposed to be a neighourhood grill then ok... 4/5 stars would work... but the prices are ridiculous if that is the case. I'll be honest,... More

It seems we have been going to Jacques forever....Although Toronto's restaurant scene offers a great variety of culinary " experience", and cuisines from every part of the world, there is a reason why Jacques is always busy... why patrons check their calendars, to see when the annual vacation closure ends, and Jacques re-opens. This review will not discuss individual items... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
