What a terrific place. The ambiance was quiet and low lit. The staff were super inviting right from the front door. We had amazing french food from soups to dinner -- we were way too full for desserts but they looked awesome! Highly recommend! Délicieux et hospitalier! A little pricey but so so worth it!

My friend and I found this restaurant by accident after arriving in Toronto and looking for somewhere to eat and we're so glad we did. It has a very welcoming décor and the staff were all so nice. Food was great - both of us started off with the French onion soup - delicious! I then had a seafood medley... More

Went with my school as a field trip. We heard negative reviews so we werent expecting much, but it turned out to be great! The waitstaff all speak French so it's a cool atmosphere. Food came fast and was delicious. Overall 5/5

Charming medium sized French restaurant. The menu is a little small but has all the standards you would expect with some Quebecois items for flair. The food is very good and well priced for upscale food in this area.

We have been there several times. First time we took friends with a Travelzoo voucher. What a great meal, we had their filet. Last week we went there again try the escargot and I had mussels. Delicious. We both had the filet then who can resist crème brulet. The prices are very reasonable, the servers extremely personable. This is a... More

After walking downtown we decided to go to the Le Papillon on Front Street. It has A good history and seemed a good bet for a meal of French cuisine which we quite enjoy. We're taken back to a pleasant table and were greeted by a solicitous and helpful waitress. Had the food lived up to the server this would... More

A very strategically located restaurant near St. Lawrence Market. The food, service and ambience is great ambience. We ordered food on chefs recommendation and found it very appropriate. The price and quality matched very well.

Went on Saturday, March 18th after eating here on January 7th (reviewed) which was not a great dining experience. Had the onion soup again which was excellent. I also had the meat special which was prime rib, which turned out to be a generous portion which was very tasty. My wife had the pasta special which she enjoyed but felt... More

Food came lukewarm. Crepes were mushy and bechamel tasted like it was made from a pre mix. Baguette was awful. Steak Tartar sauce tasted like a bottle salad dressing. Onion soup average.

My wife and I have been to this restaurant numerous times over the years, but it had been a decade or so. My wife was away, my boys wanted to go out, we decided French, and I thought "I wonder if le papillon is still around?" To my delight, yes! We got a last minute reservation on a Saturday night.... Le Papillon on Front is located in the heart of Old Town Toronto. Inside of a beautiful Old Town Toronto building with exposed brick walls and high lofty ceilings sits the beautiful venue for Le Papillon on Front. It's exposed brick is complemented well by the aged hardwood floor and perfectly soft lighting. The venue suggests a lovely mix of romance, comfort, and of course, the classic French bistro atmosphere that has followed Le Papillon to all of its locations. In the warmer months Le Papillon on Front even creeps its way onto Front street, giving a beautiful view of the Flatiron building as well as the CN tower in the distance. With a closed in patio adorned with wonderfully arranged planters you experience a private feel, even while sitting on the heart of Front Street.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
