Great place to eat in Toronto, they have the restaurant and a section to buy sandwiches. We were impressed by the speed of the service. I recommend the half chicken, tasty!

I am reviewing this restaurant again because it has recently been renovated and given a fresh look. Last time I went I found the food to be good. They've taken the place up a notch. The décor has become less fancy and more cool, with a feel as if you are in the kitchen. Service was excellent. As for the... More

Met a dear friend for lunch on a Tuesday. He is a regular and it definitely showed that they care about not only their regulars but new customers as well. We shared five dishes (that I thought would be too much for lunch!) recommended by the server and my friend and we devoured everything. We thought the beef tartare could... More

With so many great options in the downtown core, I think Mercatto got the design and execution of the restaurant wrong. Pizza's are off the menu which were a staple of the old menu as is quality. Nothing about the dishes we had were spectacular. I had the cod and was really disappointed by the quality and texture of the... More

Its busy during the lunch hour weekdays. Have attended several times (at least 15 times over past couple of years), quick service but it is loud (sometimes have to yell to hear across the table). Favourites: ARANCINI, CRISPY CALAMARI, Mains: CAVATELLI, RIGATONI, LAMB CHOPS, PORCHETTA PANINO.

The restaurant went through a Reno recently but what didn't change was the excellent, authentic italian food. I have had a variety of meals here but my new favourite is the steak, potatoes with crispy brussels sprouts which is excellent. Each item on the plate stands on it's own merits. Delicious!

We went to Mercatto for Valentine's Day dinner before a Hockey game, so our reservations were for early dinner. We chose the Valentine's day menu which included an appetizer, main course and dessert. The appetizer was a pork terrine with crispy Parmesan chips. The main was a beautifully prepared filet mignon with root vegetables. The dessert was a delicious lemon... More

Not your typical Italian restaurant. .only 2 pasta dishes to choose from Great salads. Best rice balls I've ever had. $19 is a bit much for chicken, carrots and raisins Please add some carbs. to your main entrées. ..some people were still hungry Also it would help if your dessert menu was upgraded.

Took my wife and daughters here for dinner. Appetizers were good, most notable one we had the prosciutto platter, it was excellent. Mains: Wife had the brisket burger, with truffle fries. Delicious. Enjoyed with a glass of recommended red wine, good wine list. I had the seafood pasta. It was pretty good, not great. Kids had the brisket and short... More

Delicious food, great ambiance! Just don't take the host' s advice on "his" favourite table....centre booth...in front of the kitchen. Way too warm, even on a colder winter evening. The food selections are varied, and delicious. The Rigatoni, Lasagne, and burger are all great choices.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
