Stopped on our way to the accountant for a quick lunch. Tried Pumpernickel's for the first time. We each had the schnitzel on a bun, with sautéd onions, mushrooms and peppers on a whole wheat bun,,,very tasty. The place got a little noisy with the lunch crowd, but was a fun environment.

I had quick sandwich take out for lunch. It was busy and there was lineup but line moved fast. Bit expensive but it was good.

I work in the building where this place is located. Used to spend $80 a week here. Now - maybe $10 a month. Since the reno their focus seems to be catering not street traffic. In the morning there are carts and boxes full of platters all over the place impeding access to the counter. The staff have loaves of... More

All I ordered was fried egg with lettuce and tomato - which appears to have been too complicated an order since all I received was the egg. And it cost me $4.25 - thanks alot Pumpernickels.

Since Pumpernickel's had their renovation, the place looks a lot better. It is much more inviting and brighter. The food is essentially the same. Solid deli offerings for in and around ten dollars, give or take a dollar. The line up system is a little confusing leading to a bunch of people unsure where to go. Making a line up... More

Love the pumpernickel's Salad. I go here for lunch almost everyday and fill out a nice fresh and healthy medium salad for just under 7 dollars. I eat lot of salad...Never had salad this good anywhere else.

Read the reviews and had to try it. I was disappointed to find that the food was bland, the portions not very generous and the service impersonal and cool. The decor was pretty lame but the worst was the visit to the smelly clogged bathroom. Go to Dunn's.

This is the Pumpernickels in the Mars building. They are very rude to start with but I was tempted by the custom sandwichs. The servers were very rough trying to pretend they are so busy with all their good service! but I went ahead and ordered what I wanted even though I noted how horrible my server was. She acted... Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
