Stopped for a drink before dinner and had to wait 10 minutes to order and 15 minutes waiting for the bill. Very unprofessional.

Great experience. Friendly welcome. Bread and olives on the table, an amuse bouche of octopus salad. Started with Calde verde and shrimp bisque and then we split an appetizer platter Petisco which included prosciutto, chourico, grilled deboned sardines, amazing grilled squid, Portuguese cheese , and delicious house made gravlax. House wine was a tasty and reasonably priced Portuguese white. Finished... More

A group of 5 friends who have not seen each other years and not all been in the same place together in over a decade had a great time breaking bread at Adega. I had the prix fixe which started with a squash soup of the day that was perfect and followed up with grilled squid. The squid was cooked... More

This Portuguese restaurant remains a terrific place for an evening out. We had enjoyed the cuisine and service at Adega for many years and recently returned to find that their high standards have been maintained. It is a warm room with well spaced tables and not too loud. Servers are attentive and know the menu and wine list well. Highly... More

We lucked out and got one of the semi private booths- really special! Squid appetizer was generous, tender and beautifully presented. Hearts of romaine salad lovely and not overly dressed. Salmon main was delicious, crisp veggies. Rack of lamb perfectly cooked. Creme caramel topped with fruit a perfect ending to a memorable meal. All the staff were wonderful, friendly and... More

The overall ambiance and decor of this restaurant reminded me so much of Lisbon. Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu - along with the whole staff. We were seated in a circular booth that was positioned so you don't see the whole restaurant, which made the experience more romantic. The food is amazing! My boyfriend and... More

An established (i.e. long time) Portuguese restaurant in the heart of downtown Toronto that is not located in an ethnocentric neighbourhood where you might normally expect to find such a restaurant. Service is excellent, dishes are excellent especially seafood, decor could stand to be updated. private group room in basement next to washrooms is windowless and dank. Never been in... More

This restaurant is one of the places you walk in and feel welcomed. Excellent staff experience throughout the evening, our waiter in particular. As a group, we were seated in the wine cellar. Starters, main dishes, and deserts clearly demonstrated that the chef understands his business. Flavours and textures were distinct, whether it was fish, seafood or meat. Everybody at... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
