A young lady entices you in. Terrace a little cramped but nice to watch the street passing you by. A very tasty French onion soup. Huge portion of mussels. Main course a little disappointing. Prices reasonable. Not huge menu but very French. Staff very personable and helpful. Worth a visit.

The setting was very nice and the French wine was good. But when the person serving you clearly doesn't want to be serving, it takes away from the experience. Also, though the food was not bad, it was overpriced.

We were there during an 8 Hr layover. There was a guy hooking people in as you went by. We decided to give it a try & were dutifully impressed. We both had to Osso Bucco & found it very tasty. I don't remember the price, but believe it was reasonable. We would certainly eat there again when in Montreal.

We got sucked into this place by the man outside who looks and acts like he is stoned out of his head! One of us thought he was begging for money (should have been our first clue). I knew better and as we sat I quickly looked around and saw something that resembled nachos and they looked terrible and cheap!... More

This is all that it is good for!!! The name may have changed, it has a yellow awning. When I complained, on our way out, as we just sucked it up, the greasy fellow at the door, said he was only helping out, he used to work on cruise ships....maybe a kayak on a creek, certainly not any reputable cruise... Worse restaurant in Old Montreal. Very expensive, service was horrible, food is old and bland. Do not go there, I am surprised it is still open. We went for their New Year special Menu. What a bad decision.

the Salade Cesar left much to be desired. No egg, no anchovies, bacon that appeared to have been scraped from a passing boar and 'croutons' that looked suspiciously as if they had been vacuumed from beneath the proprietor's bed. we renamed the 'Sangria' - 'horsewater'. go figure. it's a tourist trap in the Old Quarter best avoided.

We visited this restaurant last year and loved it. Unfortunately management changed and we were very disappointed. We waited nearly two hours before getting our food. We asked to speak to the manager (who was also the owner) three times and she refused to come see us. The prices are still expensive but the food is no longer worth it.

The server was definetly new and was completetly lost. The foie gras was probably open 2-3 days ago, didn't taste like foie gras and the colour was suspicious. I left a gig piece, what I never did before with foie gras. I ordered the blue cheese mussles. It was just ok. 3 people ordered the salmon tartar. One returned the... More

Food establishments located on place Jacques Cartier cater most obviously to the many tourists walking the streets of the old port. They are crammed patio to patio on either side of this busy pedestrian square and the competition is fierce. Hostesses enticing passer byes, the menus’ uninventive but de rigueur Gallic listings, the relatively budget friendly lunch prices are unmistakable... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
