I will be dreaming about this breakfast for a while. Quintessential, heartfelt foods at a no fuss diner. The baked beans are their specialty, I would ship them home by the gallon if possible. The burnt buttered toast was heavenly, I savored every bite. The flaky crust and ground beef of the meat pie was also really great. The eggs... More

We were told about Binerie by a bartender (West) at Brutopia. If you want a classic Quebecois breakfast in a cozy old-timey environment, this is where to go! soooo good. I love Montreal! Will definitely return in the summer!!

Great place for breakfast in this tiny place. You will get the traditional French Canadian fare and a glimpse of history as this restaurant was featured in the book and film "Le matou". A must go for tourists.

I went to La Binerie because I've wanted to go there for 35 years and finally it happened. I ordered the beans and in Quebec most are served either sweet like Boston Baked or savory as in southern (US) soup beans. These beans were the savory kind with salt but not very salty. They were delicious and comparable to the... More

Our son, who lives in Montreal, brought us there tonight. We were close and needed a quick dinner with him (in between shows he was acting in). He had been there before and liked and also heard excellent things. It appears to be run by a husband and wife who make you feel at home right away. We all had... More

I come to La Binerie....EVERY time I am in Montreal and recommend it to everyone I hear is travelling there. I have had breakfast lunch and dinner there and I love EVERYTHING they serve. For breakfast, if you have never had or even if you have..get the Blood Pudding Sausage with your breakfast. Yeah...I Know, I Know...but trust me...DELICIOUS. If... More

Service was a bit slow as only the owner can take the orders and he was caught with someone who came in after us. The macaroni with meat is good, reminiscent of what Mom's spanish macaroni. The ragoût de porc et boulettes on fries with cheddar was delicious, as was the pouding chomeur. They do use healthy options in their... More

La Binerie was probably the most unique and authentic experience of my time in Montreal. It's located near the Mont Royal metro station (exit and walk to the left a few blocks along Mont Royal Ave. E until you see it on your right) It's a small place with stools, a few tables, and a ton of character. Phil, the... More

A great breakfast place and even better when you can get it anytime of the day. Philippe and the other waiter (from Italy) are great. Affable and fun and good resources for tourists, they run a no nonsense diner with no hints of irony. Perfect eggs , thick bacon, smoky ham, bread toasted on a grill and Creton (think pork... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
