Birks Cafe is located in a beautiful and historic building in downtown Montreal. When you sit down you are surrounded by lovely architectural details of the jewelry store below. I was there for a high tea bridal shower with 20 guests. Our hostess and servers were very gracious and wanted us to enjoy a festive experience. As we sat down... More

We wandered into the jewelry store and notice the cafe sign by the door. After checking it out, we made a booking for afternoon tea. It was superb - elegantly presented and a true classic. I have eaten afternoon tea in some of the great establishments in England and New York and this is the equal of many.

This was our second visit to Birks Cafe to enjoy their delightful afternoon high tea service and once again we enjoyed the experience. From the moment you walk into the prestige Birks store in downtown Montreal and stroll longingly past all the beautiful jewellery and luxury watches on display and as you head to their mezzanine level, where the cafe... We took our mother there to celebrate Mothers' Day. As the café is sitting in a high-end jewelry shop, it felt like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. We were greeted and shown to our table, which was nicely located in a quiet corner. Service was courteous and efficient. Presentation was beautiful with the tiered plates. I was surprised as the level of... More

Birks offers high tea on the afternoon: little canapés, mini sandwiches, scones, mini desserts cups all accompanied by delicious tea. We were a large group and stopped by late a midweek afternoon. Some of the dishes could be fresher. But all and all very tasty! It's a fab experience to charm a boring afternoon in town :)

Had a lovely high tea there with another couple. Quite a vast choice of different teas. It's a set menu. Sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, strawberry jam, desserts, macaron, chocolates, etc. Lovely peaceful atmosphere. Situated in a high end jewellery store in the heart of downtown Montreal. A lovely experience.

At first I was a little disappointed that our Saturday afternoon tea had to be limited by the store's opening hours. However, we arrived at 3pm, got served swiftly because our high tea menu was preset, so 2 hours was plenty time. The hors d'oeuvres were delicate and delicious. The macarons and pots de crème with petits fours were melt-in-your-mouth... More

I had the pleasure of enjoying "afternoon tea for two" with a friend at Birk's Café by Europea on a beautiful Friday afternoon, just after work. First let me gush about the service. Everyone was very pleasant, accommodating, and relaxed while still being very efficient. We stayed over 2h30 and not once did we feel any pressure from the staff... More

I had afternoon tea with a friend at the Birks Cafe. It is beautifully set out and very stylish..but the food did not match the decor. The sandwiches were on dried bread,in fact i was trying to figure out if the bread was lightly toasted or just dry. It was a club sandwich a almost too thick ..not like the... More

Birks cafe is located in the heart of downtown inside a beautiful jewelly store, so the setting is very nice. However, for the price you pay, you only get very average items for afternoon tea. Not that they are bad, but nothing exciting to justify the price.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
