While visiting family we had Sunday brunch at the Lawrence Restaurant. Our nieces partner is from the UK and its easy to see why this is a favorite of his. British expat Marc Cohen has created a fun kitschy restaurant that will satisfy the most sophisticated British palate. I had the English Breakfast, the bacon was hearty and delicious, the... More

If you've never had pig's feet for brunch before, this would be a good place to start. Our meal here was memorable. To prevent me from getting a heart attack before dinner, my wife ordered a tomato, cucumber salad which was the first to arrive. Red & green tomatoes and thinly sliced cucumbers were sprinkled with a light vinaigrette. I'm... More

Last night I was completely stumped by a menu for the first time. I am a very adventurous diner - there is almost nothing I refuse to try. But for a mixed party of 4, a menu needs a bit of something for everyone. Lawrence failed utterly. Any of the following items as an option could easily have a place... More

Place: small, central, no decoration, no ambiance. On the plus side, they accept reservations Food: I like that they dont serve the typical eggs&bacon but there is no healthy option and only one vegetarian option. I was also surprised to see that they only have 2 selection of juices Different, VERY hipster, good, not impressed On the pictures: French toast,... More

Hipster / intelligentsia kind of place. In my opinion, it's better for drinks and bites rather than a full meal. Very good service and drink selection, but I wasn't crazy about the food. Modern twist on Quebecois cuisine. What we ordered was too plain for my taste. Meat was very fatty, not much to eat after cutting out pure fat.... More

Excellent lamp and beef. However, vegetarians and fish amateurs have limited choices. Parking may be challenging.

Came across it by chance. Loved the neighborhood, decor and atmosphere. One of those few places with perfect lighting, you know?! The service was awesome despite the place being super crowded. Apps: smoked eel and apple tart, crazy combination, crazy good; beef tongue with horseradish, excellent. Main course: Cassoulet for two, not Carcassonne level but good. The wine was a... More

We were introduced to Lawrence on a food tour of mile end. It is affiliated with the organic and sustainable butcher 2 doors down. We came back that night and it was our favorite food of the 5 day trip. 4 of us got double appetizers. Good onion soup, great corn and sturgeon soup, fresh side salad, the shredded rabbit... More

We heard this place was good and saw queues for brunch so gave it a try a few days later for Saturday brunch. Get there at opening because it fills fast - and for good reason. It's a wonderful breakfast/brunch - and then finish with the best beignets I've had and some great coffee. The young waiting staff were all... More

We had a fabulous dinner here! Started next door at their wine bar for appetizers and wine, then stopped in at Lawrence for the main courses. Shared three dishes: poached eel, artichoke tart and a guinea hen entree. All were delicious and exactly what we were hoping for for a nice dinner out in Montreal. Five star service as well.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
