We went for a birthday party, we were a group of 12 so we had the group menu. The group menu basically forces you to take a appetizers, main dish and dessert for at least $40. Which is a fair price but still I don't like not having the choice. But then again we were a group. I had the... More

We had a very nice meal at Les Canailles, appetizer of foie gras was a standout and not too expensive either. Great service, this restaurant maintains a very nice atmosphere in a dimly lighted room with good energy.

Restaurant with potential.. Menu needs to be looked over but enjoyed my supper. The food was fresh and tasty..unfortunately, it is a bit over priced for what you get! The entrées are really small portions and costly. I am all about promoting local restaurants but it is way too expensive for the neighbourhood. It is a one time experience restaurant!... More

A friend suggested we try this restaurant, which is also bring your own wine. The menu is quite varied, and the fare more than adequate - we tried the lobster ravioli as an entrée, which was a delight, though not very large. The foie gras was well presented, adequate temperature and tasty. Main courses - rabbit and beef bavette were... More

We went to this restaurant last week with friends. You bring your own wine because they don't have a liquor permit. It was quite noisy because their was a large group celebrating birthdays. The food was quite good. I started with a salmon tartar and had a risotto with calamari. The rice was not cooked like risotto should taste but... More

We made a reservation online and it was really easy and user friendly. The service was excellent and Hearth warming. We had beef roll as the appetizer, the steak and the tartare for entrees. It was just awesome, the flavours combinations and the presentation, everything!! We had a blast

If you are looking for a romantic yet causal BYOW kind of place for a date or a get-together in a small group of friends, this place is an option. However, don’t hope for the “it” factor or any kind of “punch” because I have a feeling Les Canailles is still in the “safe” zone for now. Great ambience but... More

With so many restaurants to chose from in Montreal I am always thrilled to share new **excellent finds, Les Canailles is one of those. If you have ver been to the Smoking Vallee in St-Henri (same group) you will see some similarities, it is BYOB, the vibe is cool, the menu, however the ambiance is much warmer and it is... More

Went to Les canailles a few years ago, so this was my second visit. We were a part of four and a reservation for 6 o'clock. Like the first time the restaurant is very noisy with it's open kitchen concept. The noise is not only coming from the kitchen but the general buzz in the restaurant is high. Service was... More

There is an overwhelming number of Bring-Your-Own-Wine restaurants in Montreal, but not all of them are as good as Les Canailles. Sure, they are associated in some ways with O Thym, Les Héritiers and L’Emporte-Pièce, but it’s a first for them to be away from the Plateau and into the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa) neighborhood. With a party of nine, we were... More

Staying in Olympic Park & Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa)

Neighbourhood Profile
Olympic Park & Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa)
Named for the Olympic Stadium complexes built for the 1976 games, the Olympic Park and the surrounding neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (HoMa) make up an invigorated area dedicated to "Space for Life." Around the Olympic Village's arenas and stadiums, Rue Sherbrooke welcomes exploration of its sculpture gardens decorated in the works of Jean-Paul Riopelle and its museum culture headed by the historical Château Dufresne. Maisonneuve Park offers interactive experiences at its bio-dome, insectarium, planetarium, and botanical gardens. For a change of scene, the gentrified space along Rue Ontario Est is packed with the city's newest, edgiest cafes, where an imaginative, youthful crowd sips foamy cappuccinos. A visit here is incomplete without stepping into the vast halls of the Maisonneuve Market, with flower stalls, wine depots, and local produce.
