Decided not to give this place a try in the end on account of the unwelcoming and arrogant staff. Very wanky place that is just too cool.

I visited this place with friends last night. My first time here. We had made reservations. Then I read many of the reviews onTA this morning to see what others were saying. Here are my honest thoughts: The place is a local pub-like restaurant. I would say cozy as it is not very big and unpretentious. The decor is unique... More

We didn't go in with many expectations - but this was a definite highlight of my trip! The decor is beautifully hipster and it almost looks like your neighbourhood pub. The food is anything but! We opted for the $60 per person tasting menu (we had intended on trying the $75pp... go big or go home... but when we told... More

We discovered Maison Publique for my birthday dinner, and after very good reviews from the press. The pub is an old fashion like place and the illusion is perfect as you have the feeling to step back one century ago. The concept of the restaurant explained by our waiter Guillaume is to promote Canadian products and wines on a tapas... More

The food is awesome :-) it's a small place but the food is exceptional, a bit expensive but it's worth every pennies.

Had a fantastic meal here...halibut pate, bagna cauda butternut squash (out of this world!), ghocchi with a ragu sauce, and a to die for fried (smoked & spiced, too, not necessarily in that order!) rabbit. Service was excellent! Shared plates, but plenty of food. We even had leftovers! Will definitely try to return!

My friend and I went to Maison Publique for brunch on a recent Sunday and our experience was mixed. Here are my observations: 1) There is no one at the door to greet you or tell you where to go/what to do. One of the waiters will most likely tell you to wait, and then seat you when they have... My wife and I had a fantastic meal at Maison Publique. The food was wonderful, and the wine list is the most interesting ever (if you like Canadian wine). The service was friendly and efficient and helpful. We had a great time and will definitely return.

Such a cool, funky little restaurant in a great neighborhood. I sat at the bar and ordered 2 daily specials and 2 dishes from the menu(small dishes meant for sharing) + dessert = a couple of beers. Service was friendly and attentive. Would go back anytime

Can't say enough good things about our experience at Maison Publique! First of all the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the offering at the restaurant. It almost felt like having dinner at their home. We felt really welcome and at ease in the space. The menu is dictated by what's fresh and in season so it changes frequently.... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
