Recommended by our hotel and will have to thank them in the morning. Creative French menu that uses many local Sourced ingredients in the dishes. We did the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. The dishes were very well presented with good flavour and texture combinations. Size was good so that at end I was satisfied although a little... More

A fine-dining experience in a beautiful location. An expensive meal, but well worth it for a special occasion. A slight problem with the bill was fixed quickly and graciously.

We savoured a 7-course tasting menu at Chez L'Épicier, an authentic French restaurant gracing Old Montréal's romantic narrow streets and fascinating shops. For the past ten years, Chez L'Épicier's chef, Laurent Godbout, has won numerous culinary prizes and awards, and the creations served to us resembled miniature works of art. The third course, was my favourite ‒ Icelandic cod, celeriac... More

If you are going to spend over $145.00 per person on a meal, there should be some Wow Factor,! There isn't any here! Out of the seven courses we were served, there wasn't one where we said, I would come back to eat this again. Further, the food was rather bland tasting. I understand that this is based on the... Nothing beats a cold friday night more than a seven course meal. To be fair I'd say 3/4 of the dishes were good, could use some work on the others. Really enjoyed the wine selections, I was served choices I wouldn't normally order myself. Staff was great and very on the ball even though the place was packed with large... More

The menu changes daily depending on what the chef can obtain from the market that's fresh and special. What results is a truly world class dinner menu and the preparation of the food is in fact world class delicious. The decor is attractive, upscale but not overly formal and the wait staff was uniformly helpful and efficient. To sum it... More

The menu de degustation with the flight of wines was exceptional. Several of the seven dishes were not on the regular menu and were original, interesting and delicious. You don't have to go to Miami Beach (in a currently red state) to enjoy Chef Lauront Godpont's cooking. The service was exceptionally professional and solicitous without being cloying. We will be back... More

We dined at Chez L’Epicier during "Mtlatable" 2016; Montreal restaurant week. The food was fabulous- we scraped our plates clean to get all the flavors of the foods and their sauces. We started with a curry & coco milk squash cream soup & a salmon gravlax. Great presentation and flavour. We added a course of delicious foie gras with apple... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
