Had a wonderful dinner in an elegant setting. Service was friendly and informative. (Thank you Marc). Food and wine were impressive. We visit Montreal annually and this place is our new favorite.

Having experienced a lot of good French restaurants in Montreal , we decided to try La Mere Michel due to so many good reviews. Well , we were disappointed for various instances : mushrooms out of a can on two different plates , Souffle au Grand Marnier [ their specialty] burned and empty , the kidney plate [ typical french... French cuisine with a classic flair is what you get when you come to Chez la Mere Michel. Excellent Kir set the pace for a lovely dinner of Coq au vin and lamb. An excellent souffle with grand marnier rounded out our lovely dinner experience.

I always heard the rave about French cuisine but never put any mind, till I ate at Chez La Mere Michel. One of the most delicious culinary experiences in my life. I have the up most respect now for French Cuisine. The ambiance of an old home is just the tip of the iceberg. The wait staffs' professionalism and expertise... More

I have been going to Chez la Mere Michel for the last 25 years. It is truly a jewel in a city filled with amazing places to eat. Its intimate dining room in a small house on Guy street makes for a wonderful occasion - whether it be a special occasion, romantic evening with loved ones or an evening out.... More

We loved the warmth, charm and ambience of this classic French restaurant. The appetizers, entrées (duck breast was super delicious), and desserts were all excellent. The wine list was fairly extensive. The service was friendly and attentive. As an extra added treat we were able to meet and chat with the owner who proved to be a great host and... More

Hubby and I went on Dec 31st. This place has been around for every and a day, but for some reason place was half full. Too bad really cuz this is where you truly get to eat very well prepared French food without the pretty waitresses or expensive décor, or fancy bathrooms. The service was above excellent - thank you... More

Food and service were excellent. They were very accommodating for our dietary restrictions (gluten free). Wine list is exclusively French and can be on the expensive side. This is not a quick in & out meal, but rather an evening’s experience.

Had dinner at this restaurant last evening for the second time in the past couple of months. I just wanted to make sure it was as good as it seemed the first time. My wife and I dine out in Montreal every couple of weeks except summer and this restaurant has the best service and food of any restaurant we... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
