Curry is one of my 12-year old's favourite foods, and butter chicken tops her list, so we were looking forward to dinner at this place. Unfortunately, the butter chicken was so sweet as to be almost inedible; neither of us had seconds and we left the dish unfinished. Everything else (aloo peas, rice, naan) was fine, but overall, we ended... More

We ordered a $60 takeout dinner for four people from Masion de Cari Golden on a Friday night. The order came cold, one dish was missing, and the portions were tiny. When I called they said they were too busy to send the forgotten dish to us. Definitely avoid. There are many other excellent Indian restaurants in Montreal.

This is a very small restaurant with a classic Indian menu. The portion sizes were ample and there was a range of pickles on offer (frequently not the case in Montreal), but the dough for the samosas and pakora was very heavy. We asked for a beer on the menu and it wasn't available. Not expensive, fairly prompt service.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Montreal. Small quiet restaurant right downtown. A little bit hidden since it's not on the main street but totally worth it. They have all the Indian dishes you wish for. The easier is very nice. They have classical music going on :) which is different for an Indian restaurant. No need to go... More

I am not a regular at this restaurant but when I feel for indian food, even after 20 years, it's always first on my list. It is such a small place, less than 20 tables. On my last visit I've waited 1h30 to be seated and served. Although I wished I waited less, it was worth it! The service might... More

Excellent choices. Attentive servers. Good beer to go with the food. Generous portions. Excellent flavours, not just spice. Small dining area, can be cramped. Good value

Went for a late supper around 8:30pm on a weeknight during my vacation after a day trip to the Jean Drapeau Park Aquatic Complex - we ordered the BB table d'hôte menu which included samosas, seekh kebab as appetizers. Both were delicious, and spiced just right. The first thing served were crispy pappadums which were cooked just right - not... More

Not the cheapest Indian restaurant in town but the quality of the ingredients is always top notch compared to any other indian place and its why we prefer it over most other. Always great authentic flavors but some days are outstanding and some others could be better (but still yummy... just getting picker every time we go... ) That must... More

I am used to amazing Toronto Indian food in ridiculous portions at ridiculous prices, but was happy to find this on St. Lau. The food is ok. The butter chicken was disappointing, way too sweet sauce and flavour neither here nor there. The naan, madras curry with beef, and spinach paneer (spelling?) quite yummmy. The price was ok. The service... More

A hole in the wall, packed, heck, jam-packed all the time, where reservations must be made a day in advance, food is stellar, and the bill is always mind-numblingly reasonable. Now: what's NOT to like in that picture? Here's what. Will happen: you will sit down, order more food than you actually need, get it, realize that "you'll never be... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
