I cannot say enough positive things about this restaurant. I called to make the reservation in French and they didn't laugh at my poor pronunciation which shows incredible self control! They were very welcoming to our child and were ready with crayons! The food was outstanding. The fish soup was as good as my mother made it, the lobster ravioli... More

Stumbled upon it and had one of the best meals in my life. All four of us did. Next day the hotel recommended it! You have to go!

Decent expectations are set when you enter a big, open dining space in a historical building in Old Montreal, and it's a lively, loud dining scene. Holder does not disappoint (unless you're looking for a quiet, cozy first date place). Then again, if the first date doesn't work out, there's plenty to look at and listen in to. I had... More

I visited this restaurant at the end of January during lunch time. Because it's part of the business district of old Montreal, the restaurant is prepared to serve the lunch service quickly. The soup of the day was similar to a cream of leek, just absolutely delicious. The kind of soup that knocks you off your feet!! The risotto was... More

We had eaten at Restaurant Holder several years ago with a large family group and had an excellent evening. This time we went as a couple to celebrate an anniversary. The restaurant wasn't too crowded when we arrived at 7:00, but got busy and loud while we were there. Even when things weren't busy, our waiter looked and acted very... More

The food is very good...especially the foie gras. Service-wise: it started off very well and my waitress was very present. After more patrons came in, they switched waiters without telling me and I had multiple waiters. However, the service wasn't very consistent. I had to ask for a waiter when I wanted more water, for my finished plate to be... More

I was by myself one night and Holder has a nice dining area for folks dining by themselves. The onion soup was great on a cold night! Great service too.

The staff speaks multiple languages fluently and is super accommodating including me i suggestions to allow those who like to experience a number of dishes to eat their way through the menu so to speak. Food is beautifully presented and very flavorful and delicious. And their desserts? Save some room...

Restaurant Holder was recommended to us by a local and it was wonderful. Great ambiance, upscale casual, nice atmosphere. I had the lobster ravioli; my husband had the braised beef and we split the chocolate mousse for dessert. Would definitely recommend.

We ordered the beef tartare and French... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
