We tried 3 places for smoked meat in Montreal and although I thought Smoked Meat Pete's was the best tasting I thought this had the best atmosphere. I would say that this place is way better to visit if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. most smoked meat deli places are packed and hurried this place while... More

So, this place is usually full, but the food is not good. I had a club sandwich that had lots of chicken but hardly any bacon and no mayo - dry and tasteless. Last year I had a philly steak sandwich, which was also awful. Son and husband had steaks. At least they were satisfied but they were nothing special.... More

When in Montreal, one must have smoked meat! With a restaurant titled "Reuben's", well, you can't go wrong! Right? Don't get me wrong, I have a Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich and it was quite good. I was disappointed to see that the meat itself is brought in from the outside. It appears all the food is generally brought in or... More

Located a few blocks from the Bell Centre, Reuben's is a must before or after the game! Reasonably priced and prompt service make this restaurant a favorite of mine when I'm in town.

We had high hopes to experience a true Montreal Smoked Meat shop while in the city for the weekend. We had read all of the reviews of the other popular and famous places, but were not very interested in waiting in lines to get into a small diner, which was well away from downtown. Reviews for Reuben's were just as... More

We were looking for a hearty brunch before a 1:00 Habs game. Lots of other likeminded Habs fans so getting food was slow, but understandably so. Server kept us up to date. I couldn't decide btween eggs or a smoked meat sandwich so had a reuban omelet with rye toast on the side, the best of both. Tender and delicious.... More

Reuben's Deli is located on Rue St. Catherine in the center of the city. It is down a steep pair of stairs. We later found an elevator. Going down at first was a bit off-putting, but the restaurant turned out to be nicely outfitted. This was a typical deli. The sandwiches were huge on fresh bread. All were served with... More

This place has quick and friendly service, great tasting food and is right in the fun part of town. The smoked meat sandwich tasted great and was served with fries and coleslaw that were just as good. Average price. Great value

We went for a late dinner (around 20:30h) and it was a very nice little walk from our hotel at the Bonaventure. It is located around a ton of other shops (both chain and special to Montreal). But it is centrally located downtown so parking might be difficult if you drive instead of walk. The restaurant feels like a New... More

Now, I love coleslaw more than the next person, and they had some amazing coleslaw with the perfect crunch and tanginess. And the smoked meat sandwich was nice and juicy and thick, sigh, how I wish to have one right now. Great road trip food for the drive home and just oh so tasty and made fresh !!

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
