I heard about the place and figured why not... Glad I did! The line was pretty long, however fast moving, plus the weather in Montreal was nice so everyone was out. The sandwich was very very good.. shall i say excellent. We got the most popular dish with meat, amazing pickle and ok coleslaw. I got the cola. It was... More

This is a classic it is like a time capsule with old tables chairs and pictures the smoked meat sandwiches are amazing and they give you loads. Be there early for lunch as the lineup starts early and can be 100 feet long

I heard so much about this place, you have to try, the best corned beef sandwhich ever... My opinion, it was not worth the wait of the line up, the seating was squishy & uncomfortable. Now the sandwhich comes & I bite into one extremely dry disappointment!!! Sorry not impressed at all

This is the place for Montreal's finest smoked meat. Classic deli, shoulder to shoulder sitting arrangement with strangers, all focused on the delicious meat with fries, pickles or spicy peppers. No liquor license, all washed down with a cherry coke.

Going to Schwartz's is a complete experience, the best spicy New York style smoke meat you can get in Montreal, the community style layout, the no-nonsense service, the activity and great smell of old style delis, although some people see that as negatives. Always worth the wait (which is never too long).

As a native New Yorker, I had my doubts about the smoked meat joint but it is amazing. The only downside is portions are extremely small compared to Katz and Carnegie back at home, but very delicious. Also highly recommend getting the cole slaw, pickles and meat sticks. Avoid the lines by grabbing food from the takeout window and eating... More

We visited the Deli outside of tourist season and on a very rainy day which worked in our favour as there were no queues. We were seated straight away and had some good, very friendly service. There is a reason that so many people go here, they know how to make smoked meat and they do it very well. There... More

I was expected a sandwich with a pile of meat on it, this was not the case, I was kind of disappointed, it was a matter of just going to the place, to say you were there, I would not go back again.

Got really lucky when I visited with my daughter, On a Sunday morning, as we arrived , a table open up for us and we got seated right away. The medium smoke meat sandwich was very very good. We lived it and sorry I didn't get to go back. The staff was friendly and the place was packed, I can... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
