We ate here twice during our three-day stay in Montreal. Great food, excellent desserts, inventive cocktails and very, VERY cozy, romantic atmosphere. On Friday night they had a pianist, playing the vintage piano they have by the entrance. Don't hesitate to eat here, whether on a date or a group night out. Loved it!

Stash was on my list (thanks to TA) and I'm so glad we went. Wonderful old-town atmosphere. I had filet of sole and my husband had straganoff. Great meal! Good service. Seemed to have a lot of locals. Heartily recommend.

Recently visited Montreal and happened upon a delightful Polish restaurant. We had been walking about taking in a revisit to 'Old Montreal.' Well were we happy with the find! Rich wood interior. Old church pews for seating at polished wood tables. Kielbasa (Polish Sausage and sauerkraut) for my husband, Golabki (cabbage rolls) for me. Yummy. Service was excellent and we... More

If you like good Polish food this will not disappoint. Great barszcz soup, kielbasa etc. and the piano player added a nice touch to the experience.

We went on a weekend night when they had a piano player. We sat at the small bar and tried several different appetizers, which were all very reasonably priced. The bartender was attentive and friendly, answering our questions about the food and beers. Everything we tried was tasty, and the other couple at the bar raved about the pickled herring... More

We were wandering up and down Rue St. Paul Thursday night looking for another restaurant and stumbled upon Stash's Cafe. I had the Menu du Debutant which is a sampler of traditional Polish dishes and my friends had the Szhycel which came in a gigantic portion. It was comfort food but the preparation and seasonings are a cut above the... More

We heard great things about this place and were excited to try it. We live next to a Polish church that sells kielbasa and pierogies, so we have high standards. We were not disappointed! I wanted to sample a bunch of things so I got the kielbasa and my wife got a sampler which included pierogies, potato pancakes, and a... More

We didn't have a reservation on Friday night so there was about a 1 hour wait. We walked to a nearby rooftop bar for a drink along the water before returning to the restaurant a little while later to enjoy our meal. Food was delicious and atmosphere was quaint and romantic. We loved the pretty red lamps and dumplings :)

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
