Growing up spending summers in Northern Ontario, I got to know fresh fish and shore lunches off the boat. I've never had pickerel that lived up to it - until tonight. The Walleye here is amazing. We were equally impressed by the extensive wine list - with selections we had previously only seen in Italy - and their service, despite... More

This is a don't miss location for fine eating in old Montreal. Specializing in seafood it is hard to beat and you know it's fresh when some menu items are seasonal. Never had a bad meal here.

It was a rainy night and the owner manager met us at the cab with an umbrella. Next the hostess took our coats and seated us. A tray with the available oysters were on display. The restaurant is small and I sat with my back to the service station. It made it hard to relax but service was quite and... More

This is a seafood restaurant and I do not eat fish. I went to Chez Delmo because my sister picked the restaurant. There is food on the menu I can eat. I decided to keep it light. I had the Tomato soup which I understand is one of the original recipes of the house and the Beef Carpaccio. I did... More

Great traditional mainly seafood restaurant with a colourful history..ask Benoit! At lunch when we went, apparently most of Montreal's important lawyers, politicians etc were there (well a little exaggerated, but it's a very well know haunt of these fussy eaters, most of whom are regulars). We dined simply but of excellent quality, and the ambiance is special. Soon too hopefully... More

Had dinner Chez Delmo on New Year's Eve. The menu was limited for the holiday but I'm sorry Dover Sole for over $90 was a lot. Food was so so and the service was about the same. Montreal has such great cuisine, would not recommend or go back here again.

Simply put, Benoit Dessureault knows what he is doing. From my perspective as a constant traveler, good food is not enough and this food is great. These guys nail it on every detail. I felt so at home during my time in Montreal. Every other night or so I would show up and they brought me deliciousness, ambiance and conversation!!... More

This was not a new restaurant for us, as we have eaten here several times in the past. However this time, we decided to try their NYE menu. It was a fixed menu, but with many options: 3 options for starters, 5 for mains, and 3 for desserts. We settled on foie gras, lobster bisque, lobster thermidor, and Dover sole.... More

Excellent restaurant located in the heart of Old Montreal close to the basilica. This is a famous neighbourhood restaurant and it was packed when we arrived. Their New Year's Eve menu was well put together, with several great choices of starters and entrées. They started with a complementary crab cake and from there the meal was perfect. The atmosphere is... More

Third visit to this neighborhood restaurant which opened in the 30s, this time for New year's eve with friends. We arrived a little early so we had drinks at the bar: great cocktails. Our table was ready soon enough, a nice spot by the large windows, even though the room was full. From the set menu we tried different options,... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
