There is no doubt that this is the best bagel place in the world. No other bagels compare, not NYC, San Francisco, LA, Boston, etc. Fresh, chewy, incredible options on flavors, with poppy seede and sesame seed my favorite.

Really enjoyed watching dozens of fresh bagels go into, and come out of, the huge wood oven! Store is tiny (occupied by ovens and baking area, and flour storage). It's not a bagel sandwich shop - rather, it's a bagel shop. The fresh bagels in the paper bag are soooo good straight outta the bag, not dressed or even toasted!... More

If you are from New York, don't even bother. These bagels are fluffy little rounds of bland, undersalted dough. New York Bagels have gone down hill over the years, but these bagels are waiting at the bottom. Huge disappointment given the hype, and btw the Fairmont Bagels aren't much better...

Was definitely really excited about this place… Learned about the whole Montreal bagel thing on one of Anthony Bourdain's layover shows on Montreal.... There's really no comparison between Montreal bagels vs. New York City bagels… They're just two different animals. The Montreal bagel is a little bit thinner and denser and what you're probably used to in the US. For... More

These are the best bagels. Don't pass through Montreal without getting at least a Dozen. Eat them quick or store them properly for later. They store perfectly. I don't buy any other bagels. Right out of the oven you'll eat 2 with nothing on them

Being an American English speaking Gentile maybe I just don't get it... we were referred by my college roommate whom we were visiting Montreal with. He's a nice Jewish boy and was born there but no resides in Toronto. I think possibly the nostalgia on his part (same as a particular deli) is more of the draw than their current... More

Enjoyed the bagel with tea and soup and salad. Wouldn't call it a cheap meal however. Worth a visit at least once during a trip to the plateau in Montreal.

The best bagels in the city for sure and worth the detour and parking hassle if driving. We got there around 9am and surprisingly there was no line up so it was great to look around and order our bagels without pressure to be quick. The cashiers were super friendly and suggested the ones they liked the most which was... More

We went out of our way on two metro lines to get here, and then walked another mile or so each way to get to St Viateur. It was well worth it! These are some of the best and unique bagels I've ever found. It was a great way to spend Christmas when so many places are closed. And the... More

Here's another great bagel shop, cooked fresh in store. You can find a wide assortment of bagels, that have a different taste than the bland store bought type. This store has a large walk in area, easy to see what bagel types are available. Open 24 hours and the parking is decent around here. Fresh poppy seed bagels and cinnamon... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
