This bistro serves tasty food in a somewhat-dated looking setting. Appetizers, mains and dessert were all enjoyable although not outstanding. Service is very slow. Prices for food are reasonable; prices for wine are somewhat high but the list includes some interesting choices. The room is quite unexceptional and on the day we ate there, there was a significant draft from... More

Sadly, I have to admit that Laloux is certainly not what it used to be. I went there this evening with my wife and the experience was miserable. Very long wait, more than an hour between our appetizer and main plate ... and we never had the main plate. So, we had enough and decided to leave half-way through our... More

We had a pleasant business dinner at this French bistro style restaurant recently. The appetizers were creative and tasty, as were the entrees. The wine list has a broad range, primarily French wines, and is moderately expensive (this is due to the centralized system for liquor pricing in Quebec). Service was unintrusive and efficient.

The first dinner I had at Laloux was for MTLàTABLE 2013 and is still one of my all-time favourite dining experiences. I was blown away by the delicious (maple-themed!) courses and the incredible value. (Un)fortunately, they have never under-charged for their food since. The second time I went was for MTLàTABLE 2016; I posted photos from that visit. One thing... More

Had dinner in the adjacent POP! the less formal bar side. Nice quiet atmosphere, excellent music. Started off with a great cheese plate, also had the fowl and the flavours and visual presentation were great. Dessert was a deconstructed mousse... nice surprise and great flavours. Great service. I would recommend this place to anyone.

We had such nice meals before so we booked for New Year. Very very ordinary. I would have done better at home. We chose the wine pairing menu and the pours were very short. Barely enough to eek through the course, certainly not enough to enjoy. Add brusque service and you have the picture. Never again!

This was a very nice restaurant but the food did not live up to the expectation. The presentation was beautiful but the taste was mediocre. I hate to not give more and wanted to like it more but just couldn't. The duck confit was great but that was the only great dish we had. The rest was overpriced and the... More

I have been a regular client since 1998. Just went to Laloux with my parents and we went from dispointment to rip off feeling! Looks like "cuisine moderne": very little food in the plates, plates and ingredients are too sophisticated with tastes that don't go together. Foie gras is a failure, desserts are a shame and cheese is so expensive... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
