Stopped in on a cold and snowy night. Quiet when we arrived at 6, without a reservation. Room quickly filled. Sat at the bar and had two attentive and engaged staff. Delicious beef tongue, sashimi and nigiri. Would definitely return.

I stayed at the Hotel that Kyo is attached to and so I went twice in two days. As someone who eats Japanese food every week and has been to Japan many times, I can be critical of Japanese restaurants. The servers were all very friendly and the music was good, it was unexpected to hear a northern soul remix... More

We wanted a nice sushi meal for a special Friday evening and decided to try Kyo Bar. Julie our server was extremely nice, and helpful with great suggestions for food to order. She suggested the tataki maguro and the yuzu doughnuts, which were some of the best dishes we've had in restaurants in a long time. We will definitely be... More

Short and sweet ...Most delicious and superb food we have ever had. We tried different entrees as well as the Sushis. Wonderful service from our waitress that was kind and friendly. Maitre D also checked to see if everything was to our liking. Bravo to the whole team , we will be back

NB - We were told Kyo would be closing shortly (March 2017) for a few weeks for rents. The decor at Kyo is not reminiscent of Japan. The background music is fifties rock. The food is 100% izakaya though. A modest choice of appetizer-sized dishes but all very good. Try the clams in butter broth - if your heart can... More

It was all good, we ate too much because it was all so good. We tried the calamari, the tempura, and the gyoza to start; they were all great. Then we tried the nigiri and a few rolls. I'm not going to lie, it was a bit pricey, but it was very good sushi. Very fresh and well presented. It's... More

We came here for diner on our second night in Montreal and it was unreal. The rolls are unique and the restaurant offers a lot of different authentic Japanese menu options. Also it is right across from the Notre Dame Cathedral which is very cool

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
