Relaxed and friendly atmosphere - always busy when we were there. Food was great and the live music too. Good selection of wine by the glass too!

Barbara and Trish provide a friendly family atmosphere at the Blue Chook Inn. The meals are great and you can always get a decent glass of wine. The music is always good whether it is recorded or live.

Such a pleasure to meet the people at this establishment. Great food, and atmosphere. Only in NZ are you ever likely to be asked if anyone has fuse wire on them while eating out. Someone needed it so why not ask the patrons! Made everyone talk to each other. Brilliant.

Kawhia is a hidden gem. Over the 20 years that my husband and I have visited, Kawhia has not changed at all. This was our 2nd time staying at the Blue Chook Inn. It is basic but clean and has 2 queen beds and 2 singles so could easily accommodate a family or 3 couples travelling. The hosts are lovely... More

Friendly, friendly, friendly. Stay out the back in their room attached to the Inn. The Kawhia Heartaches the house band play all the oldies and are great fun. My wife and I were made to feel like part of the family. Highly recommended and well worth the drive to the West Coast.

We have eaten here a few times since we are regular visitors to Kawhia and always have a good night at the Blue Chook. Trish and Barbara and co do such a great job. The food is always good whether you feel like a pizza or steak, fish or whatever specials are on the menu. Last time we went there... More

The restaurant was quite busy and they advised us that there would be a delay. The very friendly waitress kept checking if we wanted more drinks and updating us on when our meal would come out. The wait was not very long, just time to enjoy a drink or two. We ordered the John Dory and it was cooked to... More

We found the Blue Chook by chance really as we were staying as a family at a campsite around the bay and it was the first place that we found as we walked into the town. We had a really fun night. The hostess lady was an unusual character but great fun, and the was a gentleman playing jolly tunes... More
