Arrived at 12.00 to be acknowledged by the friendly bar staff, orders placed at the bar with no fuss with a 30 minute waiting time, nice and cosy pub with a roaring log fire, reasonally priced food and very good standard on offer. big thumbs up to all the staff, well done.

Been here quite a few times over the years but was informed recently by a neighbour that the fish is delivered fresh daily so decided to give it a try as had not tried it before. I ordered the cod and chips and turned out to be one of the best fish and chips I had had in a long... More

I popped into the Black Boy after a canal walk with my fiancé. You can't deny that the pub has a pleasant location on the canal but that's about where the good points end. We had lunch and both had panini's. It was only £6 but the quality of ingredients was sub standard. I had ham and cheese and the... More

I have driven past this pub now for at least the past 16yrs and have never gone in!! Today I can honestly say.."I wish we had"..we had a suberb meal..we parked up..there is plenty of space surrounding the Pub..Canal views and rolling country side..the minute we stepped inside the Black Boy..it was just immediately warm, cosy..not overly busy..very Christmasy with... Decided to go out for Sunday lunch with sister in- law phoned and reserved a table a couple of weeks before hand (good job as quite busy) choice was pretty good. Just beware meals are of generous size so if you order large fish&chips etc make sure you are hungry..... All very enjoyable and well cooked also had sweats we... More

Booked table for 9 people. We were cramped together on 2 small tables despite the pub not being very busy. Ordered food which was not very hot, steaks were dry and I don't think staff were happy as we ordered desserts at 9-55 pm as they were ready to go home. Made us feel quite uncomfortable so we ended up... More

Visited the black boy for the first time in about a year. Pub was full last time I went today at tea time almost empty that was a warning sign. Got served in reasonable time and food was hot that's all the good points. I had faggots peas and chips very bland faggots boring gravey and under cooked chips. My... More

Lovely venue and location but let down by poor quality food. Whilst the portions were large it was no better than a value microwave meal. Very disappointing. Such a shame as a lovely country pub that would be fantastic with a better chef

Ate here recently during a Saturday lunchtime. The place was relatively quiet so service was fast and friendly. Food arrived in good time and all meals were of good quality. Prices are reasonable and I would recommend eating here during quite periods. I have been here before when it has been busy and it can get really busy especially during... More
