Unbelievable find, I could praise the food enough, it is beyond expectation and well worth a Michelin star. The food is local and cooked with heart, it is just amazing ingredients and amazing food. Have to say it was the best ravioli I have ever...eaten. The small family team are so on the game, the cooking is out of this world, while the wine selection is local and well rounded. Please try and find this one.More

We arrived a little later than we planned for lunch, and so ended up on the beautiful, simple terrace, in the shade of a pergola of wild vines, on our own. Massimo was very gracious and welcoming, and hosted us with intelligent, humble passion for...our 2+ hours (and multiple "mini" courses) of delicious food. Federica in the kitchen prepares exquisite tasting dishes on a wood fired range, using only the freshest, local ingredients and herbs and botanicals from their own garden surrounding the little terrace. The food is not attempting to be overly complex, the focus is on simplicity of a few ingredients of the highest order, treated with total respect and inventively presented. While the food was delicious in its own right, it was the combination of the meal itself with the total experience that makes this special and WELL worth the detour off the regular track to find it. Go there!!!More

This is our fourth visit to this family-run restaurant and hotel. The Milano family gives you a warm and gracious welcome. The food is locally sourced long before that became faddish, and the recipes have been handed down from generation to generation without missing a...beat. This visit we had the best roasted baby goat we've ever eaten, delicious appetizers included an artichoke pie. There is always something new to discover -- seasonal specialities include game, but for conservative palates, the chicken and beef are also superlative. Desserts are simple and delicious. The large wine list includes some of the region's famous names but also a good selection of value choices. After a large meal, spend a night in the spotless, comfortable quiet rooms. Well worth a detour if you are anywhere in the Piedmont.More

Having read all the great reviews, our party of 7 ate here. We were extremely disappointed, the food was of a very poor standard and extremely expensive. The Owners were very hospitable but that hardly makes up for awful food - my advice eat somewhere...else - anywhere else!!More

As a wine writer, I was very impressed by the wines that Massimo chose for us to accompany the traditional dishes cooked by his charming wife, who even let us into the kitchen to watch her at work. Despite visiting many top wineries, some of...the best wines of the trip came from Massimo's cellar. Massimo made every effort to make us feel not only welcome, but part of the family, going far beyond the call of duty to make our trip a success. The hotel is very quiet, at the end of a small village with an ancient tower within and vineyards around. It is near Acqui Terme and about 1.5 hours drive from Barolo and Barbaresco, and a good base for exploring Piedmont and its wines. Last but not least, the prices are very reasonable.More

We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed meeting and spending time with Massimo and his family. We had changed our plans to have dinner and stay with Massimo based on some friends' recommendations and are so happy that we did! Our experience was one...of the best of our trip and reinforce why we love to travel and meet wonderful people! We loved everything about our stay, from the fabulous dinner that Massimo and Fredricka made for us to the spotless guest room with the balcony and beautiful view. Our dinner will be remembered for a long time and we took pictures of each course so that we can continue to enjoy it! Fredericka's home cooking was truly an inspiration for us! All of the courses were superbly flavorful and simply seasoned and cooked. We were both absolutely amazed that everything was cooked on a wood stove. The wines that Massimo chose to accompany our dinner complemented our food perfectly, were local and very reasonably priced. And Frederica’s foccaia was the best that we have ever tasted! The dining room was beautiful and made for a delightful experience. Massimo served all of the courses and the entire evening was elegant and relaxed. We were happy that we chose to spend the night. We could not have had a more wonderful time and highly recommend visiting Massimo and his lovely family.More

For traditional recipes prepared with local ingredients and served in a casual but elegant setting, Ristorante Cacciatore outshines any meals we've had elsewhere in the Piedmont and perhaps in all of Italy. The cooking is simple and restrained, always respecting the ingredients. The wild duckling...we've had here is the best we've had anywhere; the homemade pastas are cooked to perfection with garden-fresh ingredients. The wine list includes bottles made from rare, local grapes as well as the grand wines of the Piedmont. The host, Massimo, who is continuing a long family tradition of 5 generations, welcomes you graciously and is able to adapt the menu to your preferences. Even a vegetarian could eat fabulously well here, but they would miss out on fine regional salamis, game in season, guinea fowl, as well as beef, veal and lamb from the region. Even the excellent coffee is sourced from a local roaster. We try to return every year and you're likely to meet a cadre of Cacciatore afficionados who share our enthusiasm.More

This lazy little village in the middle of no where is the home of one of the best secrets in Piedmonte. Massimo is a gentle and passionate owner of a 5 generation place. Grandpa and Grandma still working and haven't changed a bit in 15...years. We have been going here every chance we get from Switzerland, U.S. and now came from the Middle East. The fresh simple yet amazing dishes are handmade daily and it is the exact thing everyone reading this is searching for. Small non toursity, delicious, not expensive and a wonderful experience. They have the best wines of the region and explain every inch of the food and wine parings to you. Homemade foccacia and agnolotti like no other. The bonus is there are 9 rooms upstairs, unpretentious, comfortable and perfect. If you can work your itinerary to find this place, you have made a life long friend. Oh, and finding it is half the fun...More

Massimo is a wonderful host with knowledge of wine parings that are superb. The 5 generation restaurant is more than you will expect. In 1996 or 1997 it was in the Wine Spectator Magazine and that is how we first stumbled across Cartosio and fell...in love with the family, food and wine, and have been going back for 14 years now. Even when visiting from the states... The foccacia bread is the freshest and best I have ever had, the homemade angiloti (can't spell either) Ravioli is by far the best I have ever had as well. Grandpa makes that!!! The kitchen is open and you can see the fresh sun and garden and family cooking together it is a wonderful experience. The rooms up stairs are comfortable and affordable. The little town is quaint and precious. There is a nice little courtyard in front and behind if you go in the warmer months. This is our favorite place on earth to share an evening with great friends from all over the world. And finding it is half the fun...More
