Called on Sunday and had an excellent roast dinner, the beef was wonderful. Proper home cooked food with no microwave in sight!! Good beer, friendly welcoming staff and a real log fire - what's not to love??

Excellent food good value for money . Warm and friendly atmosphere. Hunters chicken was the tastiest ever and the pie of the week was enjoyed by himself, his only complaint was it was too hot

This place is hit and miss. Used to be fantastic but my most recent visit was a disappointment. The menu had been greatly reduced and several things weren't available. We ordered steaks. Only one type of sauce available- blue cheese. I wanted rare and my husband medium. When they came both were over done. We sent them back and after... More

Our B&B host recommended The Blacksmith's Arms as being a good place to eat but I must say we were disappointed. Everything seemed surprisingly over-priced for what was in effect pub-grub - although the food was nice enough and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It's a nice building and has a good country pub atmosphere but the soft furnishings... More

We have always been very happy with this cosy, friendly & busy country pub but were disappointed overall at our recent visit for evening meal . We firstly arrived to find out that we were to be the only one's in the dining room so we chose to eat in the bar where there were a few more people for... More

we ate on Friday evening. The pub was busy, with a lovely open fire keeping us warm and cosy. We ignored the interesting specials board and had our 'regular' fish and chips / gammon and chips. 'The Flaxton Flipper' was huge, and well presented: quantities and quality were matched by the gammon. I'm afraid we didn't get to the dessert... More

Went for a pre-booked evening meal. Very few staff on, just one harassed bar maid/waitress for the whole pub. She came over as unfriendly but I think she was just stressed. The meals took an hour to come and were decidedly average. The fish was fresh but over fried and the cottage pie wasn't brilliant either with very over done... More

Typical country pub, walked in on a Thursday evening to be welcomed by a warm welcome by the staff. The thick soup was delicious. The fillet steak was tender and cooked just to our liking. Thanks for looking after us so well.

Thank Melanie S
