We had a magical evening here with a lovely waitress helping us (4 non Spanish speakers, 1 vegetarian) struggle through the menu. Food was 3-4 star, not 5, but the overall night was such fun - including a free liqeur - we went for supper on our second night too ! Small but stylish restaurant, reasonable food at fair price,... Closed the first night we were there (Monday) with no hours or whatever on the door. The area is a bit run down. The hotel part of the building has clearly had a fire and is very closed. On the Tuesday the restaurant was open and we had the set menu (3 courses - €22 including wine) and it was... More

What a recommendation from Clara of Hotel la Capellania. A tucked away and unassuming looking restaurant. We had a number of meals there with friends over a period of 5 days. All the dishes we had were superbly cooked from what we were told was local produce (I have no doubt this was the case). The flavours were wonderful. The... More

Tucked away in a back street of this tiny village, this restaurant surpassed all of our expectations. The hand written menu in English was just the start of what was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Our major point of debate was whether it was the best meal we had had in Spain or the second best. The focus on local produce... More

We stayed at Casa Marisa for 4 nights . The room was modern and comfortable and very quiet. Marisa was a very friendly and helpful hostess, finding us maps and information about La Rioja in English and suggesting places we should visit. She organised a visit to Bodega Lecea, and led us there in her car when we asked for... More

We arrived in San Asensio at around 4.30 p.m. Check into Hotel La Capellania not knowing what we would do for dinner. Our Hotel hosts, Mercedes and Clara had booked us into Casa Marisa and told us the restaurant would open early for us. We were treated to a fantastic meal and guided through the menu by the restaurant owner.... More

We checked into our hotel on a Monday tired in the off season when restaurant was closed. Our hotel called and Marisa opened up and cooked for us. An excellent revuelta and lamb and pork dishes where very good. Local crianza was served with the meal which was great. Marissa couldn't have done enough for us and we started our... More

Our hotel pointed us towards this small restaurant for dinner. Tucked behind a bodega, it is a small family operation and little English is spoken. However, our minimal Spanish and a handwritten English menu proved to be more than sufficient to order and enjoy an excellent dinner. Try the cod Rioja style, you won't be disappointed!

Seems this restaurant is trying to profit from tourists. The Spanish menu at €20 euros included a Crianza wine yet we were given an English menu and told 'no wine included'. We were not brought water which we requested. Televisions were on the whole time, competing with some loud background music. The food was average, in comparison with everything else... More
