We stumbbled across this place simply because it was raining and we wanted to hide from the rain. It was a nice surprise to find this place. The food was good home cooked italian food, the atmosphere was nice, with local families with kids, good service and good memories

Great food. Allowed meals to be split for children, even though we had to do it ourselves. Service ok. They preferred cash and stated that two different Visa cards weren't working to force cash payment. (Cards worked before and after restaurant attendance) When cash paid they short changed us to the tune of €10. When I questioned he was aware... More

Had a great experience at Ristorante Al Bagolo! The food was divine. Make sure you order the 4 cheese pizza...it was out of this world.

Was looking for a cheaper restaurant and came past this one. Had the mixed seafood pasta and gnocchetti with tomato and cream. Both were very delicious and reasonably priced. A very nice house white wine and a great soufflé topped it off perfectly. Definitely recommend.

Beautiful outdoor setting. Friendly and efficient staff. Excellent for just a coffee break, a small lunch or a full meal.

Solid food on a nice square (lots of kids running around on a Sunday night). Charged us €9 for a plate of plain pasta for our 7-year old which was a bit obnoxious.

Just popped in for a glass of prosecco. We were met with great service from behind the bar - with polenta tapa & crisps which came as complimentary - a really nice touch as everywhere else will take your euros for anything they can. Didn't have an opportunity to eat here but would loved to have stayed on to try.... More

Last time I eat a pasta, this was good. This time I eat a pizza. This was not ok. Cheap tomato saus. Pizza tasted like it was coming out of a grocery store. Take the pasta only!

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
