In town for carnivale. Picked this place because they offered free aperitif. Glad it worked. Service was great, specially for italy. Tagliatelle quatro formaggio, gnocchi pesto and spaghetti all excellent. Mutto bene

Went to this restaurant after a late flight and after checking into our hotel. The time was around midnight but the service and the food were both excellent. The interior of the restaurant was also of a decent quality.would recommend highly.

We visited Al Poggio on the first night of the carivale, we were TRYING to make our way back to the train station and got stuck. We decided to wait it out, and have a nice meal. We were quickly approached, and seated. We ordered quickly and they brought us out beer out quickly. We sat back and watched the... More

It looked like a trattoria average for venice but they did come in with the excuse of a given aperitif, once seated we order the bruscette (good but nothing special compared to the price) a shrimp and mushroom risotto (just two ridiculous pieces of scampi but with only on display in the pot of the heads) and tiramisu for dessert... After a great meal the night before, at a restaurant we had pre-booked based on trip advisor reviews, we decided to have a wander to find somewhere for dinner on our second night. With our tour guide's advice to avoid places with pictures on the menu we took to the streets of Canareggio to see what we could find. Unfortunately,... More

We were drawn in by the free spritz & friendly chap outside but it was a poor meal. We only settled on the place as we had already looked around many others. The service was polite enough but the food was below average, overpriced, and we had to wait too long. Get off the main streets and try the back... More

Visited this restaurant on our last night in venice. After a brilliant day walking all over we were starving. This restaurant was close to our hotel and it was getting late. We were tempted in by the enthusiastic doorman who caught us looking at the menu board. He was a little pushy - but on a promise of free spritzers... More

The food is average at best, and rather expensive for what it is. The caprese salad is made with undescript mozarella (definitely not buffala), the cold cuts plate was 2 types of salami and some prosciutto on a plate. Caneloni are not caneloni, spaghetti with meatballs tasteless. They also impose a 1.5e p.p. coperto and 12% service charge. There are... More

Seemed nice enough when we were outside viewing the menu and after walking for miles debating on where to go in order to not get ripped off, we settled for here. Staff seemed nice enough but a bit miserable and the man out the front was a bit pushy and I wish we'd followed our gut instinct then and not... More

Very nice center Venice trattoria with tasty pizza & red vine. So good place to sit near the window and looking to the street.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
