Good food, great service

Revisiting after a gap of several years, we found the only real change was in the prices, but even those were more than reasonable in these.times. Our shared chilli prawns starter contained exquisitely spiced genuine fresh langustinos grandes, and main courses of roast duck and sea bass were both well presented and delicious. Although due to Covid-19, the restaurant was almost empty at lunchtime, the service was as pleasant, helpful and efficient as we remembered.

We visited La Verandah in Torreguadario last Saturday, for the second time this year. We’d enjoyed our food so much the first time we went, in January, that we decided to meet the same group of friends there again. It’s typical Spanish food, but very tasty and not unreasonably priced – certainly cheaper than the overpriced food to be bought in Sotogrande, just down the road. We thought that the service was brisk and efficient – so things must have improved there, given previous comments on this page.

The best around for tapas

The tapas are as good as any on this part of the coast. The variation in type, and the flavours, make this a special destination. The dining experience is also of the best quality, although I qualify that by saying we have chosen to have tapas on our most recent visits

Worst meal we have ever had in Spain We visited La Verandah this evening, and from first appearance there was a severe lack of staff. They were actually running through the restaurant, not a good look! Goats cheese was sickening covered in thick filo pastry. The worst foie gras terrine l have ever had. Lamb tagine awful, duck not pink totally raw. Worst of all was the lasagne the cheese was so greasy my hands were shining with it when we got home after eating it with a knife and fork, l could hardly get it off. The mince was pure pink/red and not cooked so l had to leave it and eat the greasy cheese. For the first time in my life we did not leave a tip. No one checked on us all evening nor asked if food was ok even though 90% of it was not eaten. No difference in price to the many good restaurants in Puerto Sotogrande where you get good food with a view! Will never be back.

Another quality set lunch in the village

La Verandah now offers a set lunch , at 19.50€ it is more expensive than Summum 16€. The meal is served in the restaurant with 5 starters, 5 mains and 3 desserts, which changes daily. Included also is a drink. We have always shied away from eating in the restaurant because portions were large and it’s difficult to share starters. The set lunch was well proportioned, without the “frilly bits” and we left pleasantly full. Food was excellent, as always. Service is improving but looses focus on occasions. With 2 restaurants serving a set lunch, this can only be good for low season dining in the village.

Badly cooked and salty

Seriously underwhelmed with our dinner. It started off well with a decent salad tricolore, hot bread rolls and a free appetiser of chicken croquettes, which was all very good. However, the mains weren't good at all. My friend ordered medium rare sirloin with sauce Bearnaise. The steak was overcooked with a large rind of uncooked fat and the sauce just tasted of Dijon. All it came with was a big bowl of mushrooms. I ordered crispy pork with apple and was a little dismayed to received slow cooked pork on top of apple sauce, potato and aubergine, wrapped in filo pastry, which may have been crispy at some point, but by the time it was placed on some sort of orange puree (could've been carrot, winter squash or sweet potato, but tasted only of salt) and salty gravy it was soggy. It really was a winter dish and unexpected on an August menu at a seaside venue. I left most of it, and had to drink a lot of liquid when I got home. That said, the service was pretty good. Shame, as this restaurant was recommended by a local friend. We won't be going back.

A inexpensive local restaurant

The restaurant is a largish local restaurant with inside and outside seating. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. They focus tapas and there are some different styles like the tempura prawns. Parking is a challenge with street only parking. See if you can sneak into the private estate guarded by a large green sliding gate. Park there and the staff have a zapper to let you out.

High quality food at a good price

Excellent food and very reasonable. We had several tapas and salads plus dessert. Options for the vegetarians, gluten free and lactose free members of our group. House wine good too. Was empty when we arrived (8pm) so we were dubious. Packed by the time we left 😊 Recommended.

Innovative and elaborate menu. Excellent treatment

Excellent treatment and quality of products. The service was fast and attentive despite the place being full. The dishes are very elaborate and delicious. I loved the cheese and dried tomato millefeuille (a kind of pizza but with a thin puff pastry base) and the roasted eggplants with goat cheese. I will be back

Good food and very good service

We love this restaurant and come regularly. The treatment as a family, the good food! And very well presented. Good price. Cheese crunch is the most! We always ask for it. Whatever you ask for, it's gonna be nice:) There are two areas, tapas is our favorite. It's already 3 years and they're consistent. It is always perfect and as I remember or even better! There are off-the-chart options as well if you want to change a bit.

We have visited La Verandah at least 50 times over the last 15 years - only once or twice were we not entirely satisfied with the quality of the food - but then who hasn’t had a bad day at the office and 48 out of 50 times in our books deserves top ratings. Then in times of Covid, staff shortages are the order of the day worldwide - just look at all the flight cancellations and airports not being able to provide essential services! As to prices at La Verandah we always found them to provide probably the best value for money in the area - so really, reading some of the comments - you must be confusing this with another restaurant on a different planet!

Hadn't eaten here before as been to Sotogrande many times and was very impressed. Food was excellent and good portions, staff very attentive and friendly. Bill came and was even more impressed as very reasonable. Steaks were amazing with Foie-gras on top, so a meat eaters dream.
