We are taking Spanish immersion at Lake Tahoe Community College the first week of August. But that's another story - be sure to check it out. The owner of our B&B suggested Off the Hook, a favorite with the locals. It's easy to see why they like it. Great sushi, miso soup and service - and great prices if uou... More

WIth a group of 7 it's always a challenge to find a place all will agree upon. Luckily we all agreed to give Off the Hook a shot and all of us were glad we did. For a place way up in the Sierras the the range of choice was very impressive. The Honey Walnut Prawns and Nabeyaki Udon were especially... More

This place was recommended, and glad we went. Fresh fish, good service, good pricing. Nice Sake selection too. Ordered lots of small plates. Shrimp tempura-good batter and cooked nicely. Edamame, kalbi ribs- great marinade, honey walnut prawns-wow-so good. Sunomono salad-refreshing, creamy scallop-yum. Last but not least, spicy tuna roll-loved it. Place was really busy, service was good-tho they were hopping.... More

Indoor and outdoor seating and giant chalk boards to keep the kids occupied. The prices here are not outrageous and within normal range. The quality and appearance are ver good. Sake and Japanese beers available.

I was really surprised at this place - kind of chaotic, small, obviously a local crowd - but it was really excellent with great service, too! Love all the apps (crunchy rock shrimp, esp), and lots of different kinds of sushi. Plus we were able to try a few different sakes that went really well with the meal. Service was... More

Probably the best sushi we have eaten. The tea itself is the best tea and I am still craving it. We had the Holy smokes roll, Flying tiger, and the granola roll. They were all tasty and the use of macademia nuts gave it texture. Clarabell was out waitress and she was as impressive as the rolls. If you love... More

Dinner for four on a Tuesday night. Rolls and nigiri were fresh, reasonably generous and tasty. Pricing is reasonable and 4:30-6:00 Happy Hour pricing is very good (regular menu rolls at $4-7). Only one server was working the entire restaurant and register at 7:30 when we dined, so service was painfully slow. I like the understated ambiance and 70s rock... More

This place has no competitors! You won't find sushi this good or unique anywhere! I really hate to tell everyone about this place because I'm afraid it'll get too busy to get a table! Haha! Really good quality fresh fish and other ingredients. I love ordering the Fire in the Sky roll that is flash fried. Always cooked perfectly on... More

Description
Locally owned and operated since 2004, Off the Hook has quickly become the locals' favorite spot for delicious food in a fun, upbeat, inviting atmosphere. Far from a traditional sushi restaurant, this California-style sushi bar puts a Western twist on an ancient Eastern food idea, offering so many unique flavors and ingredients you won't find anywhere else. There are over 40 rolls on the menu, but the Dragon Balls, Fire in the Sky and Gambler are a must try. The sushi is undeniably fresh as the chefs take the utmost care in breaking down and preparing the best quality fish available from whole into delectable bites for their customers. If sushi isn't your thing, the menu also includes a variety of cooked items, such as Tempura, Teriyaki, Bento Boxes, Udon Noodle Bowls, and cooked fish entrees. You'll even find Honey Walnut Prawns, Ahi Poke Salad, and Korean-Style Kalbi Ribs. The homemade desserts (tempura green tea ice-cream!)and extensive sake selection are as equally enticing! Located right in the middle of town on Highway 50, Off the Hook continues to strive to be a casual, yet high qaulity restaurant, cutting no corners when it comes to the customers' dining experience. Find out for yourself why Off the Hook has been voted "Best Sushi" by Tahoe locals for the last six years! Check out their Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 4:30 - 6 pm where many of their rolls, appetizers and drinks are discounted.
