It is a tired old restaurant that has been around for over 25 years. The decor needs updating. I found the food average, the service was poor - only 1 waitress to service the whole restaurant. Lucky that they were not very busy, otherwise I think I would have just walked away. Lots of other restaurants offering similar food in... More

Overall quality is not bad but compared to the many Japanese restaurants all over Vancouver this one is just so-so. Traditional Japanese decor that's needing some updates but clean and efficient service. Price reasonable about $20 each with no alcohol. Been in business for 45 years. Can fit large groups, ideal for family - partitions/rooms available.

We have travelled to many countries and tried many Japanese restaurants in very expensive and exclusive restaurants and hotels but the sashimi we get in Ichiban Japanese Restaurant in West Vancouver is simply the best we have ever eaten! It is always fresh, and free of the connective tissue often found left by other chefs. The portions are plentiful and... More

There are hundreds of neighborhood Japanese restaurants around Vancouver, of varying quality. My children and I thought this was a good choice. The food was fine, moderately priced, and at least some effort had been made with the decor. For one adult with beer, $20-25.

Jason, the chef and ownership prepares the best tuna and wild sockeye salmon sashimi that we have ever eaten anywhere. I don't know his source, but we have tried sashimi in top restaurants around the world and his is outstanding! We dine there weekly and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is not new but is cozy and welcoming. Sit... More

My family would go there for sushi every week. Their sushi portion is just right. All the seafood, salad and meat dishes are delicious. And the service is very consistent and sincere. I notice the employee has not change since i went there at 2010 so it means they are treating staff well.

You can't go wrong at Ichiban! You sit at true Japanese style tables and are treated to delicious sushi with lots of creativity. I've never had a bad meal here and the service as always been good. A fun place to take out of town guests, or for a romantic meal for two in your own little Sushi room.

We had a craving for sushi for lunch and ended up stopping at Ichiban. What a great discovery! All ingredients were fresh and delicious, everyone working were nice and the restaurant was a fun place to eat with little booths tucked away. We spent $30 on three rolls and a spicy agedashi tofu dish (yum!). Definitely order a couple of... More
