We've already been to its sister establishment St John's & the food here is in a similar vein. Quailty meat in generous portions - well, they wouldn't be chops if not of a reasonable size. Might be handy to have a bit more vegetarian choice. I like the wine list focussed on the Languedoc region. Service also informal but knowlegable.... More

Just popped in early evening, friendly staff even though we burst in armed with bags and hardly dressed for dinner, we were pleased to be seated quickly as the place filled up very fast. Managed to get the pre theatre menu, deep fried haggis and whiting fillet. Both delicious. Excellent wine too.

We were in Cambridge for a couple of days to visit one of the colleges for my son, and wanted to try something good while we were here. We asked the owner of our B & B to recommend somewhere and she told us about this place. I had already seen it on TA so I thought, why not? I... More

Quite simply - wonderful. Whenever we have friends and family to visit, we always bring them here, and it never, ever disappoints. Wonderful food, attentive staff. I'm not particularly adventurous, so it is great to get sound recommendations from staff about what would suit my taste. I really appreciated it. It was my mother-in-laws 70th birthday treat, and she loved... More

I have eaten here many times in the past although not for a couple of years. I was glad to find it hasn't changed in terms of service and food. Both were very good. A group of 7 of us we all we're pleased with what he had. The steaks particularly. Personally I prefer the seating downstairs which is more... More

The service was amazing. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant. Unfortunately the food is very overpriced for what you get - £20 for an average (and actually rather tough) sirloin which was not served hot enough to melt the butter and £3 for 10 button mushrooms. £12 for 4 tiny squares of cheese. The food quality is "ok" but... More

Excellent lunch, great Butler Steak and Chicken suet pudding was fab. The white chocolate cheesecake (recommended by Flo our waitress), a new dessert was fantastic, my wife took many more spoonfuls then the one she said she wanted!! Great food, but the service made it.

We were served by the lovely Martina, who was very helpful with her advise & recommendations. Her sunny & approachable manner is an asset to a restaurant with a beautiful ambience. We ordered off the theatre menu - fantastic value for money. Haggis fritters were full of flavour. The grasmere sausages & steak are big winners. An absolute must have... More

We'd tried to book this for a Saturday evening, but it was full. On reflection, I'm glad we made it for lunch as I'm not sure it's that well suited for dinner. We were seated downstairs and drinks order was taken super fast! The beer was good and there was a super selection of wine available too. We enjoyed our... More

Very nice place with a great service. And the food was just amazing. I am looking forward to visiting again. What is worth mentioning not as expensive as you might think.

Located in the heart of Cambridge, opposite Kings College Chapel, The Cambridge Chop House is a traditional British bar and restaurant that has been popular with locals and visitors from further afield since it opened in 2007. Split over two levels, the ground floor boasts views of Kings College Chapel while the basement is an intimate, atmospheric cellar split into four rooms. The menu offers British classics made from locally sourced ingredients and the two course set lunch and pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money. Popular dishes include Mutton Barnsley chops; whole sea bass with wholegrain mustard sauce; and daily changing sausages made on site. The hearty portions are best served with local ales straight from the cask or wine from an extensive list.
