Quality food, service and setting. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Well worth the price. House red wine was delicious as was the coffee afterwards.

We have dined at this restaurant on a number of occasions and have always been delighted with the food, service and value for money, as well as listening to extracts from Blackadder in the toilets! We look forward to visiting again in the near future and hope that one of the excellent suet puddings is on the menu.

A great restaurant to visit if you enjoy traditional food and drink. There was a nice choice when we went for lunch: Steak pie, Suet pudding amongst the mains and sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb crumble amongst the desserts. One beer from the barrel, and plenty of choice in bottle.

A days shopping in Cambridge followed by a late sunday lunch at St Johns Chop House. Absolutely delicious and well worth the £15 per head. Nice environment, great service, will return.

Sunday lunch for a birthday. We've been here many times over several years and generally found it good. It was definitely not good on this occasion. Started well with a very friendly waitress who turned out to be the best part of the visit. The menu seems more limited than I remember. We had tasting platters for starters that were... More

You know how it is when you just want a good meal without all the fuss of a restaurant? Well this was one of those times. After a long afternoon drinking in the sights and sounds of Cambridge, we just wanted some good food before heading out. We hadn't booked but it was early evening the manager gave us a... More

We've just been for a company lunch with 50 people - ordering on arrival - no pre-order - £17 lunch menu. Friendly staff, relaxed but super-organised service, varied menu, good food, nice atmostsphere. As the organiser of several similar events I've dealt with any number of restaurants and these guys were very helpful, very flexible, very professional. Vegan options -... More

I can't see why people would complain about this place. It's in a nice part of Cambridge, the building is full of character and the menu is simple and well thought out. I had the mussels to start and they were delicious, very plump and lots of them! I had the rib of beef for main, was very tender and... More

We met friends at the restaurant that had been several times. Our table was nice on 1st floor. The appetiser was shared and very good but three of four of our main dishes were problematic. My wife's fish was so salty she returned it, our friends steak was rare instead of week done as he requested, my meal was missing... More

We went for dinner on a Wednesday night as a group and we're pretty underwhelmed. I've been here on numerous occasions over the last decade and seen the chain it belongs to (Cambscuisine) grow from a couple of places to 7 or more now. The quality of the experience and food at the two original Chop house restaurants used to... More

Description
Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.
